I too agree with City of Truro. It's been steamed enough times in preservation already that giving it another go can't do that much harm.

Agree with @John Petley about seeing "Gladstone" in steam for the first time in over 90 years .... unfortunately, I also agree with his assessment of the likelihood of it happening. :(

If we could, I'd love to take D2 "Como" out of Brighton Museum and stick it through a 1:12 size enhancer!

From the leftfield, how about ex-SDR 0-4-0VB "Tiny"? C'mon folks .... no-one now alive has ever seen a genuine 7'-0"1/4" gauge loco in steam. What with recreations "Fire Fly" and "Iron Duke" it'd improve the chances of Didcot being able to field a consistent service on their BG demo line into the bargain. Could the replica "North Star" ever be made to steam?

From Mona's Isle, I'm going to accept received wisdom that "Mannin", being pretty much unadulterated since delivery, is too important to play around with (the same might be said of currently off-limits "Douglas"), but any - or all - of "Sutherland" (now we know a small BP in good nick can handle six bogies, it'd be plenty useful enough) - or asbestos riddled "Mona" or the stuffed and mounted "Peveril" would be a sight to behold.

If it has to be SG .... how's about letting "Gazelle" out of the Col.Stephens Museum to play? There's got to be something out there light enough for it to haul!

North Eastern class M/L.N.ER. D17 1621. As there hasn't been a North Eastern [Express] Passenger type steamed in what 60 years +/-. After all 1621 was withdrawn around the same time as the L.S.W.R. T3 563 mentioned above i.e. 1946 +/-

I think it would be great to see V2 4771 "Green Arrow" under steam again, and the streamlined "Duchess of Hamilton" :)

Stroudley E1 110/W2 'Yarmouth'. Only worked in preservation on the East Somerset Railway for a few years in the 90s. Now at Havenstreet where a plan to get her working again is being formulated and which will include a new boiler. It's going to be a big job but we'll get there!

IIRC, the current (Bagnall?) boiler, fitted during it's industrial service, carried a higher pressure than the original Stroudley pattern. Is the plan to reconstruct the loco with a new LBSCR style boiler? And will rebalancing work (as applied to the original island quartet) will be undertaken during the loco's eventual overhaul?

I had the pleasure of riding behind Hardwicke on the Cumbrian Coast in 1976. Ten years later one of the S&D 2-8-0s was hauling excursions.
Has either loco been permitted out since those days?

I'm not sure about the old boiler, it's nothing but a shell now. I understand that the new boiler will be of the later LBSCR pattern, we already have an original safety valve bonnet in stock! I didn't realise that any rebalancing of the Island E1s had taken place, I do know that the E1s were known as 'Seasick Tanks' from quite early on!
