I remember being deeply impressed seeing a single chimney Castle running at about 60 mph near Ruislip . clean exhaust , and a crisp purring exhaust . a superb machine

Saw on Facebook that 6023 is planned to be in service on the SVR over the bank holiday weekend 5th-7th May. So another chance to see in action there following the successful gala appearance.

The DMU is currently unavailable. A steam-hauled service is operating in its place.

My footage of the Blue King in action on the Severn Valley Railway filmed today. Filmed on board the first train she hauled to Bridgnorth with a climb out of Highley and her storming up Eardington Bank as well as lineside shots at Bewdley and Eardington Bank again! Enjoy.

Is anybody able to say whether the new draughting arrangements are proving a success in a more challenging heritage railway environment?

Locomotive exhausts often had a "front end limit", and I don't think there has been the opportunity to assess this yet. It would be useful to know if your going over the S&C or the Devon Banks.
It looks impressive in the video though.

Sorry for asking, but what do you mean with "a more challenging heritage railway environment"?

I would imagine more challenging than the demonstration line at Didcot.

Goathland bank with 8 on would be pretty challenging :)

Gauging issues there ? regarding front end limit will just have to wait and see though I don't imagine the new arrangement is less effective than the original Single chimney at higher rates of working...

Ell in his 1953 lecture "Developments in locomotive testing" showed a front end limit of about 5400 lb/hr of coal
The test data I have show no tests beyond 4670 lb/hr. Both the double chimney and the present layout must have shifted
the front end limit because of the "longer" chimneys which greatly improve suction.

If the suggestion, made previously in this thread, is correct then the Paignton line could give a more challenging environment! :D
