And indeed the curves were much tighter in those days.

I did ask whether a derogation to run 92214 to Whitby and Battersby would be sought, but only received non-committal responses. The reason for that became clear when she was sold shortly afterwards and left the Moors. It's probably the best chance there is to see one of Riddles' finest back on the 'big railway', albeit only a small part of it.

With 29, 825, 60007, 63395, 65894, and 80136 either in traffic or due to return in the next year or so the NYMR is going to have rather a lot of servicable locos which can't venture out onto the branch, so it would make sense to seek a derogation for the 9F. It really depends of course upon what the owner is prepared to permit.

    825 has been/will be a Whitby loco.

My understanding was that, after its first brief stint on the EVL, 825's owners took the view that main line running was more trouble than it was worth. Glad to be told otherwise.

Had some good runs behind 825 during her last Whitby stint, certainly seemed a very capable loco.

I had a run behind 825 between Whitby and Battersby in August 2008, and she ran superb. Ideal loco for the Whitby's?

I'm sure 825's owners will be aware of the likelihood of the fact that their loco will see more use if it remains Whitby-capable. Returning to 92134, I think it is unlikely to be Whitby registered, but that it is not beyond the bounds of possibility. Whilst the curves on the NYMR have been eased as far as possible I'm not sure the same can be said of the Esk Valley Line in places. The NYMR's fleet of non-Whitby engines is not that great. Whilst 65894 and 29 will hopefully see low season use I'd expect them to be elsewhere on hire in the peak. Similarly, I think the intention with 60007, assuming it remains based at the NYMR, is to use it more sparingly as a high profile attraction

Is SNG not being restored to mainline running? And even if she isn't, I would think it would be quite a strange decision not to use her for Whitby traffic...

SNG is being restored to mainline running but it not allowed to run between Grosmont and Whitby on the Esk Valley Line mainly on the tight curves on the approach to Whitby.

Not sure if he's so involved with the NYMR these days - - he's gone on to buy into Northern Steam Engineering.

Could 92134 temporarily be paired with 75029's tender whilst the std4 is out of traffic?

I gather that a tender from one of the out of traffic Standard 5s is going to be hired in for the time being.

I don't know that that is strictly correct. 60007 went to Whitby on one occasion as a trial and the owners made the decision that it wouldn't go again because of the curves. On that basis, it is probably down to the loco owners to make the final decision.
