Hi, (hopefully) just a quick question; LMS brake van built in 1949 so BR markings - number and 20T on left hand side, what goes on the right hand side? I've seen both 20 0 or 10-4, and some have the wheelbase written as well. There also occasionally appears to be some indiscriminate lettering on the solebars aside from the cast plates, any suggestions?

The sole bar lettering could be maintenance data like date lifted, brakes overhauled, etc. (Not a brakevan, and 10 years newer, but on B462772 I managed to uncover the original lettering on the solebar so I know the exact day it was built.)

This is a vehicle I sign written recently, Built 1938 but has been finished in BR livery

Left hand has the Gross Weight and Running number, I have added a regional description also.
Generaly for unfitted vehicles only the tare was anotated on the right, fitted vehicles carried XP, Wheelbase and tare marking. Although it all depends on who painted it and in which works and what the gaffer wanted that day.

Best plan is always find an image of the vehicle you wish to do.

That looks really good, thanks, I think you're right that there must have been variation.
