Given the bovine stupidity of much of the population, weaned on crap television culture and social meejah, Chuffy McChuffface would be very likely indeed from the lager-swilling thickos.

Good question! Very very slow and steady from what I could gather from their stand at the York Model Railway show last month. You'll see "Prince of Wales" a long time before you see t'other one!

As far as I can see the2001 group spent all their money on getting the frames cut back in 2014 and don't seem to have produced any more parts since (lack of money?). They don't seem to want to work with the P2 SLCo - I think I read that they wanted the Vampire report from the P2 SLCo and didn't want to pay for it. They certainly aren't as active with fundraising/covenantors etc.

I will make a prediction that even the youngest current member of Nat-Pres will only ever see one P2 steaming...

They are not. I do admire their optimism, they may have thought they could ride on the back of 2007 by getting a cheaper price piggybacking on parts but as I understand they don't have the cash. It should be no surprise, where is anyone who wants to see a new P2 going to put their money? I think it was always going to be with those who have already have a track record of doing it before.

Bit like the B17's then. One is building a loco from the Inside out, the other the Outside in and the hope that, by association, MUFC will casually chuck a few £100,000 their way -more likely to try and sue them for a similar amount for some copyright or other.

The whole concept of a second P2 always seemed like daylight madness to me.

What could be done with the frames if they never get much further? I suppose they could gift them to PoW as spares - not sure there's much other use for them? They couldn't be converted into anything else, could they?

A W1 (rebuilt version) would have made more sense. Alternatively the P1 always seems to generate a lot of discussion on this forum.

Hopeless. Utterly hopeless. Nicola Function Sturgeon??? Fits at?!

    You could have had:

    Mons Ruthie

    Giro Queen
    Lord Darling
    Pain of Fife
    Wee Nippy
    President Salmond
    Earl Wasteful

    Wolf of Brewdog
    The Vow
    Doric Dream
    Garioch Gype

    Il stop there.

I might be wrong, but to mee it seems that the Doncaster P2 group focus more on creating a copy the fameous locomotive "Cock O` The North" built in Doncaster , (later maybe also a proposed Doncaster Railway Heritage Senter(?) instead of building "britains most powerful steam locomotive" as the P2 group have as slogan.
At their facebook page they have announced "we looking for sponsors to building of our locomotive".

I would really like to see this locomotive become a reality, it`s apparence is to me quite different from the original P2 with it`s A4 styled front and Walschaerts`valve gear.:) Time will tell if they succeed.

One of the reasons the A1 Trust didn't go for the Bugatti front end was Joe public would confuse it with an A4, the other was that the original P2 looked so much better

    For information on fundraising.

    Starting with the Doncaster P2.
    Screenshot_20180430-162751.png
Then look at the A1 trust.
    Screenshot_20180430-162826.png
And just to add in the B17 Sandringham projects. While it isn't as good as the A1 trust I really like this project and their income does seem to be getting bigger each year so I hope it will be completed.

Excellent post Gav! Do you have the other B17 too for comparison? And how did the other P2 jobby manage to purchase the frames with such a low level pof funding?

Quick, retract that post before Mr Martin appears with some historically pertinent suggestion...:Saywhat:
That's 'Ferguson.... Like 'Wolf of Brewdog' potential sponsorship deal there. Note also the excellent Windswept brewery of Lossiemouth do a nice dark brew called 'Wolf...'

The charity commission website only has the current 5 years of fundraising so the P2 must have been raising £2k ish for a good few years to chip in to get the frames.

Unfortunately I haven't got the other B17 as I don't believe they are a charity, I'm not sure what they would come under tbh. They are something to do with the north british loco group I think??

The only thing I will say is that while the charity commission does give you an interesting insight into how a project is doing in terms of hard cash, it doesn't take into account how much a group is managing to utilise volunteer labour.
Some good examples of this are 6880 at Llangollen (they regularly post updates on Facebook with working parties) and 82045 at SVR (has its own thread on here). This obviously means that less money needs to be raised. But for any group, especially ones that don't have parts to refurbish (GWR ones for example) money will be key to getting the parts produced in the first place.

The groups that are fully reliant on money for both making parts and most of the build, I think the A1s P2 comes under this, as does the Patriot, Spirit of Sandringham, Holden F5 etc, their bank accounts need to be heaving to be able to get a final product.

Something that is always worth considering.

A matter of opinion. A4 front end much prettier in my view. That's not to say the original style isn't good looking, it is.

I take it you've never been to Doncaster then? Not the World's wealthiest town. (An observation, not a criticism).

  20. Talking of Ferguson, I'd vote for 'The Govan Beetroot' or (adopts Aberdeen accent) 'Wullie Muller'
