I guess there is a "Plan B", (although by this time next year will probably be on about Plan P) but seems very heavily reliant on Mayflower.

What speed is a B1 passed for? Penrith to Euston sounds like a fun filled day of hopping from loop to loop?

Thinking about the return trip on the West Highland line, I'm a bit surprised they plan to drop off the Black 5 pilot at Bridge Of Orchy. I'd have thought they'd need assistance on the climbs from there to County March, and Tarbet to Glen Douglas. I guess it's to do with needing the Black 5 back at Fort William the next day. Mind you, there's a long time until next May...

Thanks, even 75mph plated she ain't going to get what is likely to be a big train up to that particularly quickly, looks like a Pendo dodging day.

    Sad, but probably true.

This would certainly dissuade me from booking on what otherwise looks a splendid week.

In the however many hours since I posted the original thread, it has been revised from Bridge of Orchy to the ‘Lowlands’.

Probably true, although steam regularly runs on the WCML north of Preston without too much looping and once south of Crewe the railway is four track pretty much all the way to London. Also, don't forget this is a only one way from Penrith to London. I suspect that the day from Fort William to Penrith will be more of a marathon that Penrith to Euston.
