Another Steam Dreams trip without a diesel! I might actually go on this. First for many years

 

I know there isn't a diesel on the way out, but not sure on the way back, as I can't see an obvious listing around BTM. Mind you, there's a box path to collect the stock from Victoria at the end of the day so would hope/assume it'll run sans tailgunner.

 

Doesn't look to be any diesel involvement. Looks like the old CathEx. movements in the Bristol Area.

Train from platform to Bristol West and return.

45212 + 10 coaches. 47245 has been uncoupled so we go it alone....

I like this new attitude towards unassisted steam.

And a new honesty by Steam Dreams. Look at 2nd June Pompey to Salisbury. I will find a suitable trip to book on to support them. Possibly the B1 to Minehead

 

45212 at Brookwood today (unfortunately I got blocked by a Class 158/159 on the fast up so didn't get the shot I was after of 45212 with the downside station building behind... ho hum! )

 

LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 45212

 

So, apart from the initial shove out of Victoria we have 45212 with load 10. Some delays in the suburban area so a few mins late leaving Woking.

30 slack at Brookwood but recovered to 47 at MP 31.

50 ish minimum on Grateley.

Now on the return.

 

Approaching Freshford on the outward leg

 

Nice run to Brizzle to Bath and going well up the bank from Trowbridge but checked to 5mph after Westbury by late unit. Rallied to 23 on the 1:70.

Struggled away from Salisbury but then a fine run up Porton bank at around 50mph.

Downhill speeds restrained.

Away from Brookwood water stop 1 min early.

 

Looked good today after Limpley Stoke, approaching the Dundas Aqueduct!

 

Two shots from this morning, captured at Forty Steps crossing near Overton and Bapton. The return will be in video form at some stage over the next day or so - the unassisted climb of Upton Scudamore was something else!

The shot at Forty Steps is taken from a safe and legal position, but it appears worse than it is thanks to the use of a 300mm lens (my normal 105mm lens is currently undergoing quite major repairs!).
