I thought I'd seen this on an already existing thread, but couldn't find it so thought I'd start it.

Having seen photos and videos of ex-Lambton Austerity 0-6-0ST No.60 in action on the Aln Valley Railway, and No. 48 which has arrived prior to overhaul, and thinking it was only a matter of time before the AVR played host to an Austerity, I started wondering how many preserved railway in the country there are which are yet to have an Austerity operating on it, even if only as a visitor. The only one I can say for definite has yet to host one is the Helston Railway in Cornwall, which in some ways doesn't count because it's never had a steam loco operating on it full stop (at the time of writing, although Kilmersden will change that by the end of the month).

I can't list a specific example of an Austerity that's run at the Bluebell or North York Moors, but it would not surprise me if there had been one at some point. Can anybody shed any light on my ignorance?

Can't comment on the Bluebell but 'Antwerp' had a spell of NYMR service in the '80s and more recently 'Sapper' had a short hire there a couple of winters back I think.

Didn't PDSR have one or two when they were affiliated with the Dart Valley? Mainline registered too? Think the loco that is now Douglas was registered? Maybe @3855 can confirm?

Swanage had the ex-Chatterly Whitfield mining museum example for a while, but I don't know if it ever ran there. I can't remember the Bluebell ever having one, and another long shot may be the Wensleydale Railway (which is probably a line that could make good use of one or two)

'Joseph' was at Swanage, moved to SDR and became 'Sapper' before being sold on.
Your Wensleydale remarks are good calls on both counts I think.

Here for a Thomas event. I don't think it worked any passenger trains. [pic]

The Paignton line (DSR, formerly P&DSR) is the Dart Valley Railway. The 'affiliation' you mention was probably at the time when the SDR operated the line as tenants of the Dart Valley before buying the line a few years ago.
    From Wiki:
The Dart Valley Railway Company Ltd was formed initially to purchase the trackbed and station sites of the Totnes to Ashburton line, which is now known as the South Devon Railway. On 30 December 1972, the Paignton to Dartmouth line was also sold to the Dart Valley Railway Company Ltd by the Ministry of Transport.
In 2010, the South Devon Railway Trust bought the freehold of the Totnes to Ashburton line from what was the Dart Valley Railway plc, on 8 February 2010

There is an Austerity on the NYMR with a very high mileage on service trains.

    Oh I think you actually mean Austerity 0 -6 -0 t's don't you and not 2 - 10 - 0 Dame Vera Lynn :)

Hopefully to return to action over the next few years.

I believe the only Austerity that has run at the Bluebell was the MHR “Thomas” conversion.

The Bluebell had Northiam (I think it was Northiam!) for one of the anniversaries in the 80s... Think the Caley Tank was there at the same time...
