I am sure we are all swamped with GPDR requests from companies whose mailing lists we are on, and to be honest I had not given it too much thought beyond that.
However my wife is Treasurer of a local art group and she was sent by the SAA ,one of the big art suppliers a link about how the changes could impact groups like theirs. Of course she got me to read the stuff for her to point out was was relevant, and one paragraph got me thinking about our hobby. We all from time to time I am sure take shots that have volunteers in them, either by accident or design. Also mainline tours often end up with lots of people in the shot. (Interestingly an friend was contacted about 18 months ago because in the picture of 71000 at Windsor on his Facebook page you could also see on the platform, the young daughter of the person who was complaining that she wanted it removed).

    Events: photography & filming
Images of people are considered personal data as they can be
identified by these images. This means that photographing and
filming at events is a form of personal data collection. While
this may sometimes fall under ‘legitimate interests’, in some
cases you should have clear, active consent from the individuals
concerned to store, use or share these images. As noted
previously, silence and inactivity is not permissible as consent
so an opt-out approach is not considered valid for consent. Try
drafting a simple consent form that all members of the audience
can read, understand and sign at the door to give clear consent

I am no lawyer so I do not know the answer but is railway photography in general a "legitimate interest" in legal terms?
Anyone looked at this or do we have any legal professionals on here who already know the answer?

The joy of steam! Candid shot on the Brocken, just wish I could have found them afterwards and offered them a copy once I realised what a lovely moment I'd captured. I guess this probably breaks all sorts of rules these days, but hey, let's let a bit of sunshine in. P1220626.JPG

As far as I am aware the law hasn't changed, as long as the people are not the primary subject of the picture there is no problem. I've just looked at a picture I took at Baker St during the Met Steam event and I can count 30+ people on the other platform and I don't think I would have beeen able to get consent from all of them. I think this sort of nonsense came up once before with some EU law on copyright and our bureaucrats went over the top and suggested anyon photographing a building would need written consent from the owner, interesting if you took a scene from the top of the London Eye. Eventually common sense prevailed

Modern technology interfaces with old(er) technology. When asked what time the departure is, the driver whips out the mobile phone to check the schedule, no good old fashioned paper stuff here! P1020838.JPG

Cutting the cake at Rannoch to celebrate the end of the Jacobite season in 2008. On the footplate WC driver Peter Walker and Ian Riley, cutting the cake James Shuttleworth and WC, ex Fort William and Mallaig driver Alec McDonald and behind them one of the more sensible posters on NP.

Two well known WC drivers at Rannoch in 2009. On the left a great character, sadly no longer with us, Paul Kane and on the right Frank Santrain, now retired but as far as I know still going strong in his 80s

The running foreman at Didcot has a chat to the crew of a King that's failed on the up Cornish Riviera. That's the only reason I can think of that it would be on shed there!
