2 of the 3 XP64s have been scrapped (SK and FK), only the TSO remains and that is down by the mainline connection, out of view from the platform.

As a variation from straight fundraising.
Would any of the stored wagons be available at a fair rate?

    Hi Bryan,

Rob is right in that a lot of the vehicles are privately owned, however if you have something particular in mind feel free to send me a PM and I can pass your enquiry to the relevant people.

Hi all from the DFR facebook page
Good news for our Mark 2 Carriage Appeal - plase share!

We are pleased to announce that we have (almost!) reached the halfway stage of our appeal, and, subject to final surveys, will be purchasing the first coach in the coming weeks. It will then receive the required brake modifications, and will arrive at the DFR ready to add to our running set this year.

As a reminder, these Mark 2a coaches have been identified as the quickest way to enable us to thoroughly renovate our existing coaching fleet. In the medium to long term future, the extra capacity will be very much needed as we look to extend northwards into the Forest towards Speech House and Cinderford, and your generous donations can help us to make it happen.

You can donate through the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dfr-mk2-coaches

Cash and cheques can be sent directly to our HQ at Norchard:

Just to update this thread the railway has now purchased two Mk2 TSO carriages.

The first aquired was of the charter pair which is currently undergoing the conversion to vacuum brake, W5341 in crimson and cream, and the other, M5175 in maroon, has been bought from the Ecclesbourne Valley. The later is already vacuum braked and should be at the railway for the Santa Specials next month. Not sure when the former is due to be at the railway.

News story here, which also mentions that the DFR coaches will now start to be appearing in maroon (bit of a shame in my eyes).

Mk1 BSK 34742 is due out of the workshops soon, so the railway in effect will gain 3 well presented carriages for next year.

To update this thread further -

Had the DFR magazine through today (issue 53). All the Mk1s on the railway have transferred ownership from the Forest of Dean Railway Limited to the Dean Forest Railway Society, they already owned the two MK2s. A fee each day a carriage is used will go towards it's upkeep, but also to overhaul sister carriages.

Further to this, I had the montly DFRS update email this evening stating -

The agreement also includes XP64 coach no. 4729, currently languishing at Lydney Junction in a state of disrepair. Plans are under way to obtain grant funding to restore this important piece of British carriage building history to its former glory.
