Spotted the train on the Grosmont webcam and can confirm the loco allocation.

Wondering if there's any news on the returning locos? Outshopping 4 in 4 months will be impressive,

J27 has its official steam test on Monday and should start running in after that, all being well, so that will be the first out. 5428 has its official hydraulic test, also on Monday, then out of frames steam test later in the week . The boiler should be craned back into the frames not long after and the aim is to have it ready for the peak season. The Q6 is currently a little further behind, I think, but is progressing well and is expected to be finished by around the end of June. After that, things are hazier! 825 was hoped for the peak but I think it will be a tall order to finish that in time as well, so I suggest that Autumn is more likely. Lambton 29 is also being prepared for its new cylinder block, which has been sent for machining, so that could be another for later in the year. Lastly, there's the Cockerill tram engine, "Lucie", for which there are hopes of completion in time for xmas carriage warming duties - so it could be 6 outshopped in 6-7 months.

Once most of these are out of the way attention will focus on 34101 and 92134 with the aim of having them available for the peak in 2019, with 75029 and 80136 progressing not quite so rapidly in the background. These are exciting times at Grosmont!

I've realised that, for completeness sake, there are some other engines likely to be of interest: 44806, WD 3672, Lambton No. 5 and 30830. 44806's turn in the queue may come sooner rather than later - it will depend on what needs to be done to the boiler - if the boiler is straightforward it may proceed in parallel with 75029 and 80135 so as to balance out the mechanical and boiler programs as the two standards are relatively good, mechanically speaking afaik. 3672 are both likely to be backburner projects, at least initially. There is also the likelihood that 76079 will require an intermediate overhaul in a year or two, given that it runs high annual mileages, , which may push back the other to standards. Lastly, it isn't known what the ELS's plans for 30841/30 are, I think many off us hope that one good engine will be built out of the remains, but equally the ELS may decide t overhaul the one spare boiler to keep turnarounds on 30825 as short as possible.

I note that in the last week or so the webcam at Grosmont has been showing that scaffolding has been erected at the bracket signal on which the camera is mounted. Are S&T giving the bracket a repaint or something?

I trust that work is not affecting letting as I & SWMBO have a week booked next month. She will not be happy if the work affects our stay.

I take it that the Goathland camera is mounted on the back of the starter signal! But does give an excellent view of the top of the 1 in 49.

I don't think they will remain having 825 being propped up by her two sisters for ever. As I understand it part of the arrangement for the sale of 830 from the Maunsell loco society at the Bluebell to the ELS was that it would be restored in its own right one day. So I would expect (and hope) that once 825 enters traffic their efforts will go into having 830 restored to action itself.

The vibrations it gets from the signal being operated have already, it seems, caused it to droop a bit in the last 24 hours - can't see the arm now of the Home signal!

The long awaited move of the coach body of ECJS 189 from the underframe that it arrived on, to the overhauled and modified underframe took place on Thursday. Video of the move can be seen:

What's the current situation with motive power on the nymr given the dry weather and fire risk in the moors? I'm hoping to visit on Sunday but would much rather travel behind steam if possible. Judging by the loco roster steam is running but top and tailed with diesel? Is this correct? I can't find an official announcement from the railway.
