Always has been an early one, and thankfully I only need to do the dawn patrol from Lime Street in future for trips taking in St Helens Central (haven't done it yet) and Warrington Central. As much as I like Liverpool, this is definitely one where a hotel is required, and they tend to be expensive. Consequently, this is probably going to be the first year in three that I won't be going to Scarborough by steam.

Trips taking in Warrington Central? As far as I'm aware there was the one in 2013 but that was a rarity? (If I've missed subsequent trips I'll be angry!)

Should have mentioned in my original post that only the outward run is steam (despite almost an hour in Milford Loop on the return, which is where loco changes often take place on these trips). No LE movements on RTT yet, so no indication when 45690(99?) returns to 10A.

There was supposed to be one last year, but recall that gauging issues meant a re-routing via Eccles. 2016 saw a run via Runcorn and Altrincham, which was a very interesting route.

Did it actually go that way, I know it was planned but I thought it was rerouted quite close to the date?

I would assume the 47 will stay on the rear as it leaves Lime St or will 45690 go unassisted.

Yes, as Big Al and myself were on it. The original route was via Standedge, and it was postponed twice to 30 July.

I'm guessing it will stay on as return is diesel.

On the Outward, diesel detaches at Guide Bridge (thence back to Liverpool, to await ecs); 'Leander' off at Milford, on Rtn, and is replaced by a diesel.

Looks like Leander still has the Black Five tender from a photo posted on Flickr. Wreath on the front for Albert Seymour.
