    Actually, no reason has been given (unless I've missed it - please correct me if I'm wrong!). It might simply be that the logistics of fitting the Bluebell into the existing program make it too difficult. All the Bluebell say on their website is "We are very sorry to say that 60163 ‘Tornado’ will not be able to visit us in August as we had hoped."

    This is A1SLT's expectation.
    "It is anticipated that repairs will be concluded in June to enable running in activity to commence and a main line test run to take place. Tornado will then pick up its diary in July, commencing with the RAF100 train from Lincoln to London on 10th July."
    There may be further testing and approvals needed after it "picks up its diary" before full service is resumed, so it's not surprising if some appointments need to give way. We'll have to wait and see.

    This is turning into a year for the A1ST that they might care to forget. Almost exactly a year to the day after the 100 mph test run, the loco tries to run at 90 mph again and fails on the road. What it confirms is that operating a steam locomotive on the main line is a complex job that shouldn't be taken for granted. I'm pleased that the A1ST has the confidence to promise a forward programme before they have actually carried out the repairs, undertaken a test run and, more importantly, had Network Rail and possibly also the ORR sign the loco off. I was going to book on the August 15th trip to Appleby but will now do so with a less than even chance in my head that it will actually run. We shall see.
