Ivatt 2-6-0 Cl. 2 464477 is to visit the IoWSR this Bank Holiday weekend. As is advertised on that railway's website all three Ivatts that were rescued by the Ivatt Trust will be in steam together for the first time. 46447 should travel over early this week and will return to Cranmore next week. To enable 46447 to work with the air braked stock it has been through piped for air so that it can work trains with one of the resident Ivatt tanks. It has been fitted with an emergency air brake valve. See attached photo which shows the front air piping - the flexible connecting pipe will be fitted on the island.

Please do not overlook that this Gala is by way of appreciation to Peter and Roy of the Ivatt trust for their gift of these three Locos to the Isle of Wight Steam railway.

Some of you lot could hardly distinguish "A" from a bull's foot! Of course I shall be seeing 46447 in operation during what is to a great extent. a "thank you" to two extraordinarily generous people and a get together with our friends from Cranmore. It goes back to East Somerset, where it normally earns its keep, next week. As ever, the message to some of the posters on this thread is "get real".

As you know perfectly well, they are two that attract no such stricture. The comments which prompted the strictures appear to have been deleted

Loco was still being loaded when I arrived at Cranmore this morning but pleased to say that it left during the day.

Looks like the good folk at the ferry company have got loco transfers down to a fine art. :)

Was there a speed restriction, as it was running tender first?

Nowt as can't be worked around .... a small, well aimed tender mounted trebuchet ought to do the job quite nicely. :D

Now those photos totally confuse/intrigue me. What was the purpose of having the tender where it was? The tender couldn't go on the same trailer as it would be illegal. The loco is anchored to the trailer so it is not going on any further on, in any case. If it was being used as a runner to push the loco on then why is the tractor unit sat at the bottom of the ramp? They didn't use that to push it up the ramp, did they? :(

I was wondering the same thing - was it because the front of the tender is an easier/safer fit for the tractor to push the loco onto the trailer with the tender's buffers then pushing on the loco. (in effect using the tender as a convertor of the push points)

I was also wondering that. I will try to get an explanation and report back.
