Yeah right. The project I’m currently working on uses, for example, a maximum train speed in degraded mode of 16.093km/h. It’s embedded into software on the train, there is no technical reason for picking this figure over, say, 16km/h, but there it is. 10mph, coded into software. The imperial system is alive and well, hiding in plain sight.

This amused me recently. A completely arbitrary measurement using imperial units.

On a par with the one I saw at Whitehaven docks which said '' Dangerous crossing one yard away. "Alas I did not photograph it.

I'm always reminded of the time i went into a hardware shop - a traditional one, not one of our superstore chain ones - and the conversation went like this:-

Me: I'd like some lengths of 2" x 1" planed timber please

Shopkeeper: Sorry, sir, but we only do matric sizes these days

Me: Ah, OK. I'd like some 50mm x 25mm planed timber please

Shopkeeper: No problem. How many feet do you require?

    Me: *snork*...

Looks like more than a few people completely misunderstood the warning...
