    November, Again?

We shareholders were told at last years AGM that the Board fully intended to return it back to where it always used to be in the June/July period this year. Peter N. said he fully expected to have the accounts up to date to be able to meet that time period....

I can, sort of, understand the original delay caused by the new accounting system but that's three or four years ago now.

Why the delay again this year?

    Hi Alan

It isn’t really a delay as an AGM can be called at any point throught the year. Mid November is the best time outside of the operating season as its after regular ops and before the Santa season.

Hummm. I suppose the same could be said for the April / May period between Easter and the main season - With the possibility of the weather being better and there would be no other pressures on peoples (and the Boards) time and effort like preparing for Santa's.

I don't find the practice of presenting shareholders with financial information that is 11 months out of date very reassuring. Surely the Board could do better?

I agree. It is usually considered good practice to hold an AGM as soon as the Annual Accounts are completed. Allowing for this being a voluntary organisation perhaps one to two months after the end of financial year. Members/shareholders need to be able to assess the financial situation as soon is reasonably possible.

In the CofE, a church has to hold its annual meeting before the end of April, with finalised and independently examined accounts for the previous calendar year part of the package. That is a reasonable but focused timetable.

    Hi all,

Thanks to those who've come to our '40th anniversary' events so far this year. Just a quick reminder of the next event coming up...

On June 9th/10th, we'll be holding an event called 'Gwili 40 - The Party' - celebrating 40 years of the railway in the preservation era. On the cards are...

    - an intensive timetable both days
    - visiting road steam (full size and miniature) in Bronwydd Arms carpark
    - trade and display stands
    - live music
    - steam-hauled evening curry train (and bar) on Saturday night.

Further details (including both public and working timetables) will follow shortly. If you've got any questions, do ask. Hope to see some of you there.

    Thanks,

    Phil.

    Update

CK 16232 gleaming in the sunshine after a repaint, next up for work in the shed is GWR 216 of 1888 with numerous fiddly jobs and two doors off site for repair and return in addition to a repaint. Will this be the year at last?!

    Regards

CK 16232 was shunted down to Bronwydd Arms this evening, ready for re-entering traffic this weekend. It looked immaculate!

Also, just a quick reminder about our 40th anniversary event ("Gwili 40 - The Party") this weekend. On the cards are...

    - Intensive timetable of steam, diesel, railcar and goods trains - our busiest yet. (Hourly departures from BA, plus other movements).
    - All available locos in action.
    - Doubleheading and 'non-stop' trains - plus unusual movements.
    - Road steam display at Bronwydd Arms (both days)
    - Miniature Railway rides at Bronwydd Arms (both days)
    - Connecting railtour (Saturday afternoon - "The Last Invader" from Paddington -UK Railtours).
    - Footplate passes on sale for both days - limited spaces still available (see details on Facebook).
    - Live music at Bronwyd Arms (Saturday afternoon - the award-winning "Cathays Brass")
    - Book Launch ("The Gwili At 40" by Iain McCall - special price of £10 for the launch weekend).
    - Evening curry train special, with bar car (1815 + 1915 ex Bronwydd Arms - steam hauled. £5 for curry, £7 for curry, rice and a drink).
    - Carriage & Wagon works open (both days), with footplate of TVR No.28 open for visits
    - Loco rededication ('Welsh Guardsman') by TV presenter Arfon Haines Davies (Sunday, 2.45pm)
    - Loco parade and cavalcade (Sunday afternoon - 3.10pm).

It will be a busy (and memorable) weekend. Hope to see some of you there!

    Thanks,

    Phil.

    Evening all,

Well it’s been a while since I updated all the goings on (besides the usual operations)

    1. Llwyfan Cerrig station, new firebuckts, repainted gas lamp, running in board.

    2. TVR Carriage 48 has been restored externally and internally as a visitor centre at the station.

    3. GWR and LNER wagons recently repainted

4 and 5 - GWR 216 having its roof repainted and bodywork attended to. Lots of work ongoing, two doors away for repair, others having door handles fitted. We have also just acquired more original GWR door vents and gas lamps for fitting.

6.Aberaeron signalbox having replacement panels fitted

    7. 0-4-0ST “Olwen” having the chassis repainted and motion work. The boiler has reached the stage of of he hydraulic test.

    Regards

    Matt
