Just an aspiration to be a Trust if there's enough interest. Just thought it was a nice name, rather than 2P CIC(and no, it isnt set up, the page is a day old). Will open the group, its FB de facto now to be closed, so it is opened. Something to do with Internet Trolls, I would imagine. Sadly the Train Forums also seem to attract these unpleasant people. Hopefully soon they will get their just deserts for the teenage suicides and so on they have fuelled/caused.

Meantime, back to 2P, has anyone looked at bottom end drawings, is it common to other Midland designs?

Then just call it the 2P loco society or similar. Calling it a trust when it isn't, is deceiving (other words could have been used here).

    The billionaire Sir Keith
(I'm not a billionaire or a Sir, but it's an aspiration...)

In the early days of the LMS Patriot project we decided to just call it that. A project. Actually we gained charitable status very quickly but we had the name and it stuck. The next one will already be named "The Fowler tank project" but will be owned by the Charity LMS patriot project as we set that up so it can have multiple engines.

I for one would love to see a 2P. Call it the "LMS 2P Project" and then you can stop all the criticisms.

Indeed anyone who has gone through the pain of setting up a charity will be somewhat upset that you misuse this hard won status of calling yourself a trust when you clearly are nothing of the kind.

In simple terms those using the term wrongly is in effect bringing the hobby into disripute - please do think before you act in such a wreck-less way.

Hang on chaps! I don't know whether this outfit qualifies as a "trust" or not, but it could be a trust without being a charity. For example, when my mother died, under her will a trust was set up for my step-father to reside in her flat for as long as he wished. That was officially a "Will Trust", but certainly not a charity.

Yes you are right there are many types of Trust for a whole manner of situations family trusts and similar for all sorts of financial situations, however what every trust needs to be set up correctly and legally - something I would think the "2P group" failed to do. In the context of railway preservation such a trust would indeed be a charity, there may be exceptions but I can't think of any but will be happy to be proved wrong.

ah will you leave it out, they only just started up, the Trust can officially follow, they have nothing yet to put in a Trust.

What's clear is this is one replica that needs to be built and would be very popular.

I too believe it would be very popular. There are many "themed" galas where a 2P would fit in very nicely. And they could do the job of hauling 5mk1s up and down a heritage line very nicely too. It would fit in nicely with my dream LMS Fowler engine shed as well. Haha.

yes needs, far more sensible than building a monster LNER loco, nice though that will be. If there's one replica that needs to be built, this is it. (and that's from a GWR fan)
S&D, M&GNJR, MR LMS and BR guises, plus they ran from Bournemouth to Inverness (not all in one go of course). Would fit in anywhere

There are no engines which NEED to be built, although there are some where it is highly desirable; being an LMS man I'd put the Fowler Class 4 2-6-4T high on that list. I would also agree about '...a monster LNER loco', but that's a different issue.

The 2Ps were generally considered poor as they were coming brand new out of the works in the 1920s. You certainly are not going to take one main line, although I have no problem with that, but I struggle with the idea that a four-coupled engine with all the works between the frames driving 6' 9" (7' if you go for the Midland version) is a wonderful idea on a preserved line limited to 25 mph.

If course, anyone can build what they want if they have the money, but just don't go waving the tin under my nose!

I never thought I'd see the words '19" Goods' and 'attractive' used in the same sentence!

    I 100% agree about a Fowler 2-6-4 tank!

But as with everything, we don't need any new builds, they are all nice to have, and the only way we will see any of them is if there are enough people willing to put money into a pot to build one.

Lovely as that is, even RPSI would like another one if they could afford it, and it does have some differences from the Fowler version (besides the gauge).

Yes, I can't see any of the mainland preserved lines hiring it for a gala!

Frankly @LMS2968, I'd have thought it was obvious ..... How else can all those S&D galas be expected to provide an authentic pilot loco for a light pacific? :D
