Hope the news is true and the flagship engine of the SDR is on the way back

 

I noticed on the July loco roster that L92 has disappeared from it and that 2766 is in use this weekend. Is 2766 the Bodmin based Austerity saddletank loco?

Visited last week with 6412 running. Nice railway with beautiful stations and - although I'm easy to please with Western power anyway - I do have a particular soft spot for these little panniers

 

I see on the SDR facebook that 2766 failed on Friday and was replaced on Saturday and Sunday by the Bubble Car.

The loco roster on the SDR website lists that it is in use on 14 & 15 July as the second loco on the Red Timetable. As it is a one train service, I assume on a charter of some type. It and 6430 are shown operating the Blue timetable on 16-19 & 21-24 July. L92 comes back into service on 25 July.

 

I see the Bodmin austerity still has only managed some test runs? Isnt it newly overhauled?

 

I heard that it was found to be in poor mechanical condition. Sounds similar to what Swanage encountered when they first received the T9

Has the Bodmin Austerity worked a train (other than test runs) on the South Devon yet? Is she still there?

Don't know if she's ran yet, but was in the shed last Sunday...

 

Presumably not the one nearest the camera!

 

I don't know about it working any trains, but it was in steam and doing some shunting on the 19th July when I visited the railway.

 

I see this month's Railway Magazine has an interesting article and illustrations of two new buildings (engineering shed and more covered accommodation including much needed carriage restoration facilities) yet I can find nothing on the railway's website. Has anyone any information on this?

Visiting loco 41312 has been out on test today.
The British Railways Ivatt Class 2MT Tank Engine is planned to haul our passenger trains tomorrow and the remainder of the week.

 

Given the substantial fine received by the SDR, I would have thought they needed the goodwill of prospective local passengers. This long running saga is gaining more momentum in the Totnes area and could reflect badly on the line.

Whats in it for the railway though. It will lead to vandalism as nothing over looks the station to stop anybody doing anything especially at night when no cyclists will be using the path.

 

To be fair, the SDR has suffered in the past from vandalism to coaches at Buckfastleigh, and being unable to block access to their Totnes station at night would open up the site to vandals and thieves. I read the local paper's report and a lady was saying that Staverton station was open - however, just because Staverton is not blocked off at night doesn't mean that other stations should not be. There is a lot of stock and buildings at Totnes Riverside. The SDR is offering to help with alternatives for a new cyclepath, so it would be wrong to call them obstructive.
