While unlikely to find an answer, I'll still ask the taboo question...

Any locomotive allocated for tomorrow's run? And with this week of very hot conditions again, have any restrictions been placed on steam operations this week?

I'd guess there is a high probability the risk assessment will demand diesel assistance at least. There has been little rain to speak of, in East Lancashire at least, for some while and I believe the N. Yorks / Cumbrian parts of the route are much the same.

With fields full of ripening crops along part of the route it makes sense to be extra careful.

I'm hearing a steam ban was implemented from 18.00 yesterday. Two 37s will take the tour tomorrow. No doubt it was too late to cancel/postpone. Hopefully all future trips will be decided asap.

One consolation with this is the chance to phott the train in the landscape. With the present weather conditions a chance not to be missed. I would be out but have a prior engagement called work:Joyful:

Unsurprising, been expecting that since I saw this at Wolverhampton on Friday evening, and not one steam engine on the main line at the time. The summer monsoon will doubtless be with us soon enough; enjoy the sun while it lasts.

Not sure, I'd be surprised if it's not. The news are reporting areas of TSR's over the network due to heat buckling, so I'd say it's nationwide.

Thanks. Used to be able to find out fire risk status on NR's websites but can't find it these days. Supposed to be public information. Must be buried somewhere.
