I don't think that will indicate if there is a stop or not though. All the ones that haven't stopped this year were timed to stop.

Fellsman's I think will always stop, to drop off passenegers to/from the Ullswater option part of that tour, but any other tour like a CME or Dalesman there is no knowing.

If it's the MN a tank of water should see them through to Hellifield

Yes, but the same has happened so far this year with 48151 and 45699, so it would seem any of the loco's at Carnforth can get by without a top up at Appleby.

But if they haven't got sufficient locos little else they can do

The water dispute was reportedly only affecting Dalesmans because they are WC whereas RTC, SD and Statesman pay for the water directly. Clearly its not quite so simple. The Fellsman stopping at Appleby but not watering seems very peculiar, on the face of it.

If there is a charge per use, and it is not required to take water to do the full line length, the other promoters may also have decided to pass on it too? The press article in one of the mags suggested West Coast were advising others to do similar to them? It is all a bit peculiar, but we're fairly used to these oddities in this game?!

Not forgetting that if none taken at Appleby more water might be taken at Hellifield. Now who owns that water supply ....... ?

It's almost 78 miles from Carlisle to Hellifield. We've been told over the years that the rule of thumb is 80 miles per water stop over mixed terrain on 4000-4500 gallon tenders with the water level never being allowed to drop below 1000-1500 gallons with a boiler fairly full. The 'long drag' is more or less 15 miles of 1in100 in both directions and that takes its toll, but water use is offset if there's no stop and restart at Appleby. So its all about knowing your engine's water usage with the load on the day and starting with a full tender at Hellifield and Carlisle.

Shame about the changed path. I start work not far from Wilpshire about 10 mins after it came through before...

    Now I miss it completely

Guess I’ll be on time for work in the future then.

As the 8F is bringing the SD trip south as far a Crewe tomorrow this suggests that both Jubs are OOU. Surely the 8F wont work Saturday's CME?

Why? There are loads of reasons the 8F was chosen over a Jube, not necessarily both being OOU

Just so and I have it in my head that with a 50 mph max the path does not fit either.
