Thanks to help from M59137 I was able to get the attached 'ex-Work Photo' style shot of the ex-Works Quads in the soft evening light at Weybourne yesterday evening after their 10 year refresh. Contrary to comments in Steam Railway the roofs were not re-canvassed. They have been re-sealed around the vents and roof top electrical conduit and then given three coats of paint.

Any idea what's running next week (locos and carriages)?
The "what's running" pages seem to have gone. I imagine they were a pain to keep up to date...

Next week is Suburban Travel Week - one Mk1 set plus one an historic set each day and the Met Camm 101. Monday and Tuesday sees the Vintage train out so expect the Y14. Wednesday and Thursday it is the Quads so expect the N2, Friday and Saturday is Mk1 Suburbans so expect 76084. Not sure what will be on Mk1s but B12 and 9F are available. In addition this Sunday is the Vintage Transport event with Mk1 set, Quads, Vintage train and Met Camm 101 in service. Expect N2, Y14, and Class 20. All of the above were the plans as of yesterday but obviously subject to changes if stock/motive power becomes unavailable.

    Brilliant, thanks Steve.
Any idea which services will be the Vintage/Y24 on Mon/Tues? As in which departures from Sheringham?

I don't know why - maybe it's too many pictures of Kings Cross York Road - but to me a set of Mk. 1 suburbans should have a green-with-no-yellow-warning-panel 31 at the front... :)

When did Stratford's paint shop begin 'pushing the envelope', livery-wise? .... and do we have any idea who was behind it all?

About 1977 wasn't it? With the 47's and the union flag.

Sounds about right ..... I do recall references to the 'Statford Special' livery back then.

Ryde and Machynlleth (at least) 'did their own thing' too. Mach were turning out DMMU's with red buffer beams and white dangly bits by the early 70's and when Sir Peter Parker commented (favourably) on Ryde's variations, they responded with a suggestion to finish their VEC & TIS units (ex-LT 'standard' tube stock) with full-blown HST livery and the services rebranded "InterVillage 45" .... pity it didn't happen! :)

Would that have been around the same time Finsbury Park started to apply the white cab surrounds?

I honestly don't know. Round my way back then, most livery variations came from brake blocks and random abstract patterns of insects and birds splattered across the front of Slade Green's EPB allocation!

Am I the only one who rather liked the 'Jaffa Cake' EMU livery superceded on formation of the Network South East sector?

Thanks to all at the NNR today. My four-year old daughter and I had a great time. As always, I found everyone helpful and friendly.
564 was magnificent as ever in beautiful blue, and the vintage set was a credit to the C&W team. So much more fun than another MK1 train. The Midland six wheeler looked great, I would have liked a ride, but couldnt persuade my daughter that it was OK to travel back in a different carriage to the one we came up on... The W&U tram carriage was brilliant, though. Can't beat the balcony end view in either direction.

Am I right that at the moment it is only the dining trains running to Cromer?
I know the crossing is not for regular use.

Pretty much except for loco moves for galas etc. There aren't any timetabled normal passenger trains over the crossing.

    Thanks.
While I'm asking all my NNR questions, is there any other times this year that the vintage train will definitely be in use? Likewise the Quad Arts? I've been to galas before and the vintage set wasn't out. Would love to sample the other carriages.

I wonder if regular passenger services to Cromer could be a long term possibilty?

I realise the cost of upgrading the crossing, plus the lack of space for a run around loop at Cromer would be major issues.

The thing I remember about Stratford 47s were the silver roofs, in absence of the Union flag. Also the "Cockney Sparrer" making its appearance.

Stratford however was turning out highly polished locos long before then - see the steam-era pilots at Liverpool Street.

I must admit, I never liked the white cab surrounds on the Deltics in the blue era.

    That W&U tramcar really needs a J70 replica/new build, you know... ;)

Stratford took great pride in the appearance of its loco's even the Class 15's in the early 1970's were kept in reasonable condition. I rather like White cab surrounds on a 55, the break up the blue slightly, although for some reason I'm rather liking D9009 in all over blue, makes it look like a big hard bugger! 50 odd foot of pure muscle!
