If we are talking Livery, how about Apple Green without smoke deflectors...

In all seriousness, as the locomotive and its paint finish has nothing to do with the general public, how about just letting the owner decide and talking no more about it as discusion on National Preservation will change nothing and look as silly as the Flying Scotsman thread...

Lol, All im saying is, its a topic which we have no control over, and no notice will be taken of it, so talking about what coulour "we" would like the engine is irrelevant.

Just leave them to it, you can say what you think would look good/is authentic, but the buck stops with David Smith.

Anything has to be better than the sorry looking locomotive that was parked up at Crewe for a good few years before finally coming in from the cold for a resurrection to working condition.

The livery is the most significant variable factor that dictates how a locomotive looks, so people are bound to discuss which one they would like to see. But it can get a little tedious when people confuse personal taste with how things 'should' be, as I often do....

    Oooh look - 1000th post.

They did look the business in green. We all know it's correct with the smoke deflectors, etc, the public will just know it looks really smart. From my personal memories, it'll be a right goer as well. I saw a piece in SR a couple of months ago, by Mike Notley, saying they were indifferent performers, but I remember them clearly on 15 - coach trains, and the Crewe men I spoke to, said they would do almost anything a "Lizzie" would do.

All this talk about liveries - its just a few microns of paint that can be changed at will.

Isn't the progress on test running of more importance?

I am surprised not to have heard more, or was everyone on the KWVR last week?

There was talk around Hellifield last night about a possible 10 coach loaded test on Friday as the Hellifield to Clitheroe opens up on Wednesday. Not times on UKsteam info so I am not sure if it was just gossip (of which there seems to be plenty about this engine)?!

..... but not according to TRUST which has trains arriving at Horrocksford early Thursday morning - and not departing until early Friday morning if other websites are to be believed.

It doesn't matter how you look at it. You've got to hand it to David Smith and his WCRC team for this rebuild. They've suceeded where other schemes unfortunately didn't.

There has also been a rumour today about a loaded test run over Shap tomorrow, Tuesday. :-k We will probably find out for sure only when it's on it's way.

Too right, I remember having a go on a certain S&D 2-8-0 that visited us for a gala just before our line got washed away, and some one was going on about wouldn't I enjoy it more if the loco was black as it should be. My reply (which had my driver laughing at least) was to ask if it would alter the steaming qualities of the loco.
The point being, who cares what colour it is, it goes don't it?

I know when you are on the train it doesn't make a lot of difference what the appearance the locomotive hauling it is !!

But surely when viewing from the lineside its got to look authentic - - whats the point in spending mega bucks on an overhaul then ruining the whole thing with an unauthentic livery.
