That's fine for GWR locos. As a rebuilt West Country is a British Railways loco, they have never run without smokebox numberplates, so a missing one would be highly noticeable.

I don't think Tom was arguing that stamp machines are relevant to WSR operations. His point was that Isle of Man ferries calling at Llandudno are no more relevant than stamp machines. Hard to argue against him, I'd have thought.

Provide through ticketing Bishops Lydeard to Douglas and you would indeed have relevance to satisfy the toughest of thread-drift police.

Suppose you could do that if the loco was dirtied up, nameplates removed, and the number just chalked on the smokebox in true 1967 style!!

It wouldn't have mattered, because it wasn't a number change - unlike 34046/52. The engine's number remained as 5051 when it was renamed so presumably it would have still carried that number on the front.

I'd quite like to see someone run it as 34052 on one side and 21c146 on the other. Position and style of the smokebox number might be the least of your problems ...

I think you mean 21C346 for a rebuild in the Bulleid notation;) I’ve often wondered what one would look like in malachite green...

I know just the vessel to run the service. PS Ryde isn't doing much (beyond disintegrating gradually into The Medina) at the mo. The buyer would need to meet a few (decades of) outstanding mooring charges and any restoration would be (a very long way north of) 'challenging' for a very experienced team of restorers, unquestioningly backed by a paddle steamer obsessed multi-millionaire ..... or not.

See PS Ryde's own thread for details.

Alternatively, it could be put on static display in the goods yard at Dunster station.
It would greatly enhance the appearance of the place.

Not sure if this should be on this forum but mods please move if needed.
The Chairman of the PLC, Ian Coleby has suggested that a group of individuals could come together with a plan to restore ex GWR Prairie 4110. If the PLC Board found that acceptable they would support the group. I have therefore started a Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/2109799522599000/ to try and bolster an attempt to get this restoration rolling. Please take a look and join if you wish.

    Hmmm.

Although, a heatwave in the UK coinciding with the Edmondson thread? Suspicious....
