Can I just second that, a day out at the North Norfolk's always time well spent, but throw in the quads and the subs... Wonderful.

Must watch episode 4 again as reading the artical
Well spotted thank you, our recorder is still expecting it to happen next Wednesday!

Must watch this weeks programme again as just reading articles in this months steam mags and both report that permission had to be obtained from the palace to be able to use the Queen Vic emblems on the coach, don't remember anything being said about this in the prog.

Are there any restrictions on the use of No 10? I only ask because Steve Davies mentions in 'Steam Railway' that he wanted the Oldbury at the rear to reduce the strain on the wooden frames.

There was a comment to the effect only the NRM's example and Steven's were allowed to carry the VR monogram (this side of the Australian outfit with the same initials at any rate!)

Anything about having serviceable carriages makes me think that the Glouccestershire and Warwickshshire Railway manages pretty well.
Which I don't think they have done it by throwing money at the coaching stock - resourcing a well directed steady effort, sure,
but not by contracting everything out.

    Two things in particular:

One, the value of readily repainting, which must act as an automatic inspection with hopefully
either a stitch in time, or a shrewd idea of what work to organise how soon.
If it isn't possible to keep rolling stock under cover the next best thing is making sure the paint is
    in good condition.

Second, a paint shop might be very well worth it - as the GWSR has.
Painting cannot consort well with anything that raises any appreciable dust - nor varnishing the paint.
Wether it's simply the painting and workshop jobs getting in one another's way and losing volunteer
opportunities or, more subltley, that full coach painting and lettering actually needs rather a different
outlook and suuoundings - a full length of lining might not be the better for a sudden startling clang.

No.10 has been designed to work with the other 4 wheel carriages so should be capable of regular use. Compared to a Mark 1 Pullman it is a little more delicate.

Westinghouse air brakes and associated passenger emergency valves are currently being fitted to make this feasible.

It must be proving a very popular program, if they have decided to move it to a prime time Saturday night slot.

I believe no.10 is intended to operate in the 4 wheel set on the ‘all island locos together’ weekend in August.

Any chance this might happen over the steam show weekend too?

Further to my earlier post.... are there many Mk. 2a/2b coaches in preservation? Just thinking how nice a set of 2a's behind a blue pre-TOPS 47 would look :)

According to my good lady's tv listing magazine it's because of the world bladder booting thing going on in Russia. It would seem that channel 4 don't want to show Ackley Bridge if England are playing on the same night (Tue) so instead they are showing some repeat on Tuesday and this Ackley Bridge thing on the Wednesday, thus moving Peter Snow out to a different slot.

You should have a trip to the Mid norfolk railway. They run regular trains with Mark 2s both early and later versions. I believe they have one rake in BR Maroon and one rake in Blue and Grey. Also at least one Mark 3 last time I went in the Blue and grey set and also they have some BR Blue diesels and a 101 Dmu in Blue and grey too. Well worth a trip to see this line with super potential.

Knowsley Art Glass Ltd. have added a section to their website showing the work they did on the toplights for Oldbury No. 10. Clearly this job was more than just publicity for them.

And your point being? So Knowsley Art Glass are making hay whilst "the sun shines...." I seem to recall a tale that the Worth Valley Railway have a noticeable spike in visitor numbers anytime the original 1970 version is shown on TV. My point being good for Knowsley as it means they could increase their business and employment of staff etc......

That's a little bit curmudgeonly! I acknowledged they would benefit from the publicity but they appeared to be genuinely pleased to be involved with the project as a project. As some people feel, with justification in respect of the last programme, that too little was shown of how things were done, I thought people would appreciate a bit more about the process involved. Seemingly some do not.

I briefly visited the MNR last year and the atmosphere was decidedly 80s BR. There's a market for that

Just had a look at the ratings, viewing figures of just under a million making it the 13th most popular program on Channel 4 for the week ending 17th June.

It’s not bad ratings for a program some might consider slightly specialist. Just shows there is an audience for it.

Have to say I like my days out to Wymondham certainly when like last year when Large Logo 37424/558 visited and was combined with Blue and Grey stock, took me back to my childhood when we had a caravan just outside Twywn and used to chase 37's on the Euston Pwelhi's!
