Does posting this here rather than in the Picture Puzzle thread mean that the OP doesn't know the answer?

it's not 4612, but in a sense that's quite close.( It's not the other Pannier that was parked close to it ,but unidentifiable from the train, either).

The wire and chain wrapped round the hook suggests it is an auto-fitted loco.

As Bill says it could well be 6412 actually. Lines up with the idea of it being an auto-fitted engine, plus it has the smaller whistle shroud.

it is indeed 6412, I thought maybe a thread on loco details would be of interest. . Doesn't have to be a competiton but I'll offer this one with no id just to gauge reactions. name2.jpg

I reckon that's 30120. I'm enjoying this - I've never got any of the picture puzzle thread answers!

If you mean what I first surmised, where the person posting the picture doesn't know the loco's identity, that would make sense.

If you mean a quiz where the poster does know the loco's identity, rather than not knowing and wanting to find out, then I have previously posted just that sort in the picture puzzle thread, such as these.

I don't remember how many others may have done so, but certainly no-one objected to mine and people submitted guesses just as they do for the more common "where?" kind. I would prefer to keep it like that. If you are really keen to have a separate thread then you should request a change in the rules for the general puzzle thread to exclude this sort.

I don't think there's anything in the Forum Rules that says you have to post in a particular place if what you are posting is similar. In any case see my post #10

No, but keeping similar stuff together does make life easier.

I'd be all in favour of a thread along the lines of "Here's an interesting picture of some bit of a loco", if it's not a quiz and there is not already a more appropriate thread such as one for the loco concerned. But it seems cleaner to keep quiz questions together, with the already-decided split between the UK and the rest of Europe plus perhaps a rest-of-the-world if enough people would be interested.

Have you edited post#1? I thought you had muttered about never winning on the picture puzzle thread. That is no bar to posting puzzles there, as it's now often Open House.
