Ah, that's the great thing about reality shows- theyre dirt cheap to make, don't have to pay Equity Scale to the contributors, especially if they're animals, the public wants what the public gets, etc.... Or do they?
Thankfully with C4 they did something different, and which needed more up front than just dog biscuits.
    Credit to them.

I'm not surprised at that price. 3360 (the wheelchair accessible LCDR 3rd on the Bluebell) cost at least £50,000, and that involved modifying an existing underframe rather than building a completely new one, plus a somewhat less ornate interior. So that sort of figure for IWR No. 10 certainly doesn't feel surprising.

I think the £62k also included the cost of the underframe for no.21, which was purchased at the same time. So the actual figure for no.10 will be a bit lower.

The £62k is only what is covered in the 2017 accounts, I am sure that their are 2018 costs to add to the total but not quite on the same scale !

I came across a couple of instances this week of the publicity this series generated. Firstly a conservator who is doing work on a Freshwater, Yarmouth & Newport cap badge mentioned casually that she had seen the programme on I.W.R. No. 10. Secondly, a couple from Southern Ireland, waiting for the same bus with me two days ago said their possible I.O.W. holiday had been turned into a definite one from watching the episode.

So, if there should be another series and your railway gets asked to take part, think very seriously before you turn it down as "too demanding". You would be turning down a lot of expensive publicity with real reach.

That's 3 people, all good stuff!

I heard it mentioned more times than that at our recent diesel gala when we opened our C+W works. My feeling is that this programme did more to raise awareness of carriage restoration in general than specific lines, although Llangollen did do particularly well out of it.

In anticipation of picky comments I quoted the lady's description of where she came from exactly! Whether or not the capital letter should be used was often the subject of the more turgid sort of English lesson and was inconclusive. Now back to the subject please.

Paul, was at your gaff yesterday.

Whilst admiring the Oldbury coach for more than a number of minutes, ALL of the people who walked past commented on the fact that it was the coach that was featured on the programme.

It surprised some that it was there.

So, upon reflection, some watched the programme and enjoyed it but hardly took notice of the location.

One lady said she thought it was based at the festeringnignog!

It cannot be so assumed necessarily. I am aware of someone from Peterborough having made a day trip specifically to see the vehicle whilst I have met someone who came from Cardiff similarly. There have been plenty of others who had seen the episode and even recognised some of the people who featured in it!

The point about the Irish couple is that they were non-enthusiast citizens of another country encouraged to visit by the telly. The other person is a professional conservator in a totally different field to carriage restoration.

That's almost acute of her. Boston Lodge turns out similarly beautiful things and, had the timing been right, their reconstructed Metropolitan four wheeler would have been a good subject for the programme. By the way, you are standing into danger! @30854 got into terrible trouble for using this traditional appellation for the F.R..

It's not at all inconclusive or picky. Southern Ireland is not the opposite of Northern Ireland. The Country is called , in English, Ireland. If you were quoting you should have made that clear. How could you tell she was using a capital S when speaking? I come from southern Ireland, I do not come from Southern Ireland

North, south. east or west it seems to be semantics. The first time I met, someone who became a good friend, who was form Ireland, I asked him which part he came from. He replied "the north". To someone in England that usually means one of the six counties of Ulster i.e. Northern Ireland. When asked where? he replied "Cavan", which for those not familiar with the geography of the Emerald Isle. is a northern County of The Republic.
Note how I have avoided using Southern or southern. :D

just to be pedantic with a wry smile, there are 9 Counties in the Province of Ulster. Ironically one of those is Cavan.

Is that so? I bow to local knowledge. Maybe the slogan "six into twenty six won't go" was in the back of my mind.

26 Counties form 4 historical Provinces- Leinster, Munster, Ulster and Connacht. These four Provinces have no legal standing but are used for things like sports.

The problem is that ‘Province’ and ‘Ulster’ are used inconsistently and/or misused. Ie Iain Paisley and ‘Ulster says No’. I am fairly certain he did not have the counties of Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan in mind.

6 of the 9 counties of the Province of Ulster are in Northern Ireland, although what Northern Ireland is, is also subject to debate and something of a can of worms. It isn’t the Province of Ulster so it isn’t Ulster and it isn’t a Province.

To add, this is not unique there are many other examples across the world where historical borders and boundaries do not map onto modern boundaries. For example the historical kingdom of Moldova/Moldavia, the modern region of Romania called Moldova and the modern state of the Republic of Moldova, and of course Greece and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia over the use of the name ‘Macedonia’ because using the name Macedonia implies territorial claims over Greece.

I seem to recall that the Rother Valley thread has an argument over the use of England vs UK as well.

    Apologies for the digression.

We've had quite a few people through C&W since the programme who've told me they've come to the IWSR because of the programme.
