My much published run with 35012 on the up Belle in 1965 was judged in Winkworth's book as being better even than the Duchess run, taking into account engine size and duration. 2,325 EDBH and 3,085 IHP at 76 mph. This may have been the best but I had a number of runs with Merchants where 2,000 EDBH was exceeded. I would think that Tornado may well be capable of 2,300 EDBH. For runs with locos with big loads see the next HR due out this week.

 

Just being curious, but when is the estimated date for the arrival of the A1 Steam Trust's Mk3 Coaching Stock due to arrive

 

Bit disappointing that fully 10 days after Tornado's owners announcing that the 18 Aug Bard of Avon tour will be hauled by "another locomotive", UK Railtours are still as of today promoting that tour with multiple lyrical descriptions of Tornado.

Surely the A1LST and UK Railtours (their booking agent) owe it to their mutual customers to communicate better?

 

Fair comment, inexcusable and lack of basic diligence in promotions seems to be endemic across the trade sector.

 

The circumstances are very frustrating for sure, but what little certainty there is ie NOT the A1 should be reflected in the adverts straight away otherwise it becomes misleading. I do have much sympathy with UKRT and they are not routinely culpable of this sort of oversight though.

Its a very good salary for someone based in the North East.

 

Not for the experience and qualifications they are looking for.

 

I've seen qualified electronics engineers get less - in London.

 

No, but if you've paid off the mortgage and put the kids through college then that might be an attractive proposition for the last 10 years before retirement. Mind you managing a mixed team of staff, contractors and volunteers might be a lot like herding cats.

 

The salary isn’t what you are going for in that role. They clearly want someone passionate about stream, and you can’t really buy that.

For what it’s worth, even if it’s less than a market salary I would seriously consider it.

 

Their are very few staff in the Heritage railway business that are in it for the money, I certainly wasn't. I earnt more in 1994 with BR than I did when I retired last year from the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, you do the job because you love it and you are passionate about your hobby. It becomes part of your life, I consider that for approx 30 years of my working life my job was my hobby.

You don't live in the North East then. That salary is very good for this area and is about average for someone getting that responsibility in this region.

 

Its a chance for someone to make a name for themselves...
