no not really, to paraphrase someone much better educated than me, it's not worth seeing, it's not worth going to see. (The actual Causeway is of course well worth seeing except you'll get ripped off by the National Trust car park if you aren't a member and aren't capable of walking a couple of miles.

NT car parks a rip-off? I'm shocked! 'Spose they can't all charge as little as hospitals .... Oh! ..... wait a sec ....

It's a great pity restoring an electrified Causeway line wasn't considered worthwhile. I reckon they've seriously missed a trick there.

The modern Causeway carriages remind me of a larger edition of the ex-"Safari Express" stock currently in use on the 121/4" gauge Littlehampton Miniature Railway [and here comes an unapologetic plug] which, although regular steam operation is a way off yet, is worth a visit if you're in the area ..... it's a very pleasant little line, run by a great bunch of folks, and the lake at the Mewsbrook Park end is lovely.

hmm, with a hospital you have the option of parking up the road, with GC there are double yellow lines literally for miles before you get there, leaving the NT car park the only option. You get admission to their centre but you can bypass that anyway to access the GC, but you can't avoid the car park

I haven't moved the goal posts at all. Thread is still asking what UK heritage railway are you likely to visit in the next year for the first time

I cleared my actual 'bucket list' (the thread title) last year. There are still a few places I'd like to visit, that were not important enough to go on the 'bucket list'...starting with the Swanage Railway next month :)

I thought 'bucket lists' were once in a lifetime things you had never done, and once done would not need to be repeated. No timescale given except before you pop you clogs, or become unable physically to achieve.
Seems that some have different ideas of what constitutes a bucket list.

Not round the Royal Sussex County in Brighton you haven't ..... you're lucky if you can through the building site the place has been for decades to get to a drop-off point .... and outside, for the most part, our old streets simply weren't ever built with cars in mind and it shows, big time! You might find some space on the charming Bristol Estate, or the more distant Whitehawk, but in either case, removing the wheels yourself and leaving your car perched on bricks would save the nasty surprise when you got back. Even the buses don't hang around going through those estates .... and on a few occasions over the past couple of decades, drivers have point blank refused to take buses into Whitehawk after dark (I kid you not).

..... and the parking wardens round this way hunt in packs! :(

Going back to the "UK heritage railway are you likely to visit in the next year for the first time" visited East Lancs, SouthTynedale and Tanfield for the first time in the last week, and all issued Edmondson tickets.
Hope to visit Foxfield and Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in the next 12 months.

East Lancs is probably the biggest English line I haven't visited. Was it good? I seem to get the impression it's in an area of industrial decay with poor parking and not very scenic. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I visited last Sunday morning during heavy rain (it was my back up plan for bad weather) . I parked at Rawtenstall in the railways car park though there is other parking next to it, not sure whose it is though ( there is also other parking near by according to a quick search). There are also carparks at Ramsbotten and Heywood. A took a return trip to Heywood and did not get off on route. There was a 2 train service operating 1 steam and the other diesel There are scenic sections ( Irwell Vale and south of Summerseat) as well as industrial decay, a sewage works, modern industrial estates and a couple of stations that have not been reopened so it is a line of contrasts. Well worth a visit.

The “International Bar Car” on the Dublin based set is worth the trip on its own. :)

Agreed! Irwell Vale is a great place to park (need to be there early on special event days) and a nice place for a family picnic in picturesque rural surroundings.
