Sorry but cannot help with any detail but you could check the Grosmont webcam to see for yourself.
Check what time anything is due through.

    Yes

All trains are currently diesel hauled from Pickering and steam hauled with diesel banking from Whitby/Grosmont.

Riding the trains today, diesels were giving plenty assistance up the 1 in 49 to Goathland

First ever visit to the North Yorkshire Moors yesterday. Wow! That is some railway. Fabulous and varied scenery, twists and turns, serious gradients..... what's not to like? Wife said it was too long! There really is no educating some people!

76079 was in charge for the outward trip (Pickering to Whitby) with no diesel assistance. After lunch in Whitby caught 61624 as far as Goathland. I was looking forward to some fireworks up the bank from Grosmont but they were clearly trying to avoid fireworks by sticking a Class 20 on the back (rather smart LT livery). Finally caught 5428 "Eric Treacy" which again had no diesel on the back. Very good to see this loco as it was one I haven't seen before. Makes a nice change to see a Black 5 in LMS livery.

To throw out something, I remember reading there was some musing on raising the track speed to help shorten the journey time due to that being a main "issue" with families.

Hard to see how that could be done given the nature of the railway. Presumably it's got a 25mph limit like other heritage railways, but is there a higher limit on the Grosmont to Whitby section?

Presumably whilst still a major undertaking it would be less than on other railways given that most of the stock is passed to run on the mainline already? Exciting if true, it really would be a USP!

Haven't we been round thus buoy a few times before - if the infrastructure cost could be justified, you'd then have the minor challenge of having to lose the legal exemptions that heritage railways benefit from.

Oh I appreciate that, it would obviously be a major challenge, just slightly less so on the NYMR than anywhere else as they've got a small head start no?

On what basis do you suggest the 24's return is anticipated next year?

On the basis it hasn't worked for at least 5 years that's my basis it may not be anticipated by you but then again I'm sure that anything you are looking forward too I would view I'm my own way, is that ok for you boss?

Not a problem, but I was curious given that D5032 has been "under repairs" for donkeys years, and my copy of Moors Line never gives me much encouragement that "next year" will see the job complete. But as you asked in the context of a gala, I thought you might have had inside information that would give reason for hope.

No problem, the main reason I ask in the latest RI there was a picture of 24032 put back together and I expect by now it's more forward I would expect that by spring time it should be capable, but as there wasn't a diesel gala this year but hopefully next year

Out of interest what is the ticker tape banner across the top of the website that reads "All trains operating as per scheduled timetable" actually mean?
I would take it to mean that trains are running on time, but maybe it is meant to actually mean that they have not been cancelled. I am not a smartphone user but if I went on the website whilst around the Moors area and viewed that I would expect to catch a train around the published time. I have noticed from watching the Grosmont webcam this is often not the case, and last evening the 1715 to Pickering left 32 minutes late and the 1715 to Whitby about 40 minutes late, yet the banner was unchanged.
I fully appreciate why operations get delayed, but does Joe Public, and surely incorrect information that is presented as an apparent live update feature is as bad, if not worse, than no information at all.
