Wonder why she's going Hellifield - Blackburn - Preston - Carnforth instead of direct via Wennington.

 

Maybe to avoid running tender first if a diesel pilot is always needed at the front?

(Pure speculation, I have no idea)

 

If its reversing it at Hellifield then its got to run tender first for part of the journey

 

Presumably so she is facing the right way for tomorrow

 

There a turntable at Carnforth?

I am sure it has been mentioned previously that there is a gauging issue somewhere which often explains the peculiar routes Scotsman takes to and from Carnforth?

 

I’m sure there’s a video somewhere I saw of Scotsman going from Carnforth to Hellifield via so she could haul a tour from Hellifield to Carlisle

 

FS ran direct from Carnforth to York via Hellifield earlier this year. If it is a gauging issue then it only affects a westbound move

 

Correct. 60103 is not allowed past southbound platform 1 at Carnforth hence today's route.

Eastbound moves from Steamtown do not run through the station but start at the western end of platform 2.

D213 on its first test run for Locomotive services (Saphos) in readiness for its railtour duties later in the year, here it runs down grade on the single line down slow from Searchlight lane Junction where it is about to join the west coast main line at Heamies Farm between Stafford and Crewe with the 5Z91 12.42 Telford to Crewe leg of its round trip from Crewe via Chester and Shrewsbury.

 

The 2nd loaded test run departed from Crewe at 10:08 this morning. Same stock, same route. <BJ>
