Back when there was the small incident with Tangmere and a dropped connecting rod, I dug out a picture I had of the crosshead on 35028. Clearly stamped on the gudgeon pin ... 35005.

When we stripped 34081 back in 1977, we made a list of the numbers stamped on components of the motion. Quite a few early WCs had donated parts over the years. I wonder if any original components from 34081 exist on other preserved examples.

With 35005 we found half the motion and the rear drive wheel were all up as belonging to 35019 French Line CGT

Let's face it, parts moved around during overhauls and when lots of the same class were together anywhere. Not much different from Routemaster buses when they went into Aldenham Works.

With 1/3rd of the class still with us, (is that right?), I wonder if some little (or big!) bits from all of them are still kicking around.

Well just taking into account the boilers your looking at least half the class having at least surviving component.

Saw a rebuilt B of B heading south on the A34 at Sutton Scotney yesterday morning.
Presumably ' Sir Keith Park' returning to Swanage?

Also saw it near Bournemouth, does anyone know where it had been? Crank axle repairs I believe.

South Devon Railway I believe. Can only assume it is felt better to use motorways and trunk roads rather than the narrow Devon and Dorset lanes.

Gone, but not forgotten in my book. I remember that fantastic run around the Welsh borders back in 2013, and the volcanic runpast at Folkestone Harbour in January 2009. Got to 1,072 miles just in the nick of time.

Speaking of '72, 34072 has had a test run on the Swanage Railway. Hopefully not too many snags emerged.
