Maybe Heljan will donate something in order to promote their MW 009 models?

I think nice expensive cash rather than cheap shots is what we'd prefer ….. :p

Four is probably enough to be going on with for now, but nobody said we have to stop there! ;)

Presumably the only constraint is the number of three letter river names available.

We've got the Uck down our way, but if the additions to local signage are anything to go by, it might not be quite the ticket...

Although privately-owned, the L&B did have a loco named SID about ten years ago, now residing in Sweden. The L&B retained the nameplates, so who knows?

I'm sure and any shortcomings of the design that were evident were provided against in the new Lyd.

Over and decidedly beyond this, the remit to which it was designed was to haul half as much more again to the original time table - six coaches rather than four.
It is actually a major bit of new design to achieve this with:
    roller bearings,
    multijet exhaust,
    a gas producer fire box,
    a distinctly higher boiler pressure,
    a superheater and
piston valves in a very carefully detailed cylinder block.

This is not only a major thing to do in itself but has been managed keeping nearly to the original dimensions and without compromising the appearance.
It is early days yet - it took some years to do what it needed to get the Boston Lodge "Lyn" to take six rather than four carriages over the Welsh Highland - but the
signs are perfectly encouraging - showing at this stage as fuel economy - and clearly deserve intelligent interest.

You seem to be confusing Lyd with Lyn? I'm not aware that Lyd has roller bearings, a gas producer firebox or piston valves, but Lyn has.

Given the similarity in gradients with the L&B, I would think that the performance of the Boston Lodge Lyd on the FR is of more interest.
I've been watching Lyd on the FR webcams over the last few days and it has been in regular use on 8 coach trains (it took 9 yesterday). Similarly built MW's for the L&B should be able to handle the 6 coach trains envisaged comfortably.

I hope they build ‘Red’, and paint it green. That would appeal to me.

Their are three main rivers on the Isle of Wight the Medina, the Yar and the Yar. So you could give two Locos the name Yar! It can be weird on the Island. :)

I heard a story some time back that Yar was the ancient British word for river and that when the Roman who was tasked with overseeing the area asked the locals what was that , meaning, what name do you call it, the local chieftain just said Yar, meaning River ,isn't the word Medina from a roman name of a water goddess ?
sorry for drifting this thread down river :)

I know it is four letters, but given the amount of support the new L&B has had from farmers in the area, perhaps a locomotive named Sh** Creek would honour the state of dairy farming in Devon....

Now what a marvellous collection of locos we got here, and I'd say if the L&B was so lucky to his lot, I think they'd more then cover their motive power needs me thinks. ;)

That said though, two of the engines here do stick out and intrigue me a fair bit, namely the diesel at the very back and the notably larger Baldwin with SOUTHERN and a nameplate on it's side tank.

The diesel has to be a freelance design I'm assuming, though would actually look pretty nice if the railway was to have a couple diesels built specially for their needs, certainly if paired with some SR green carriages.

The Baldwin on the other hand, judging by it's longer length, must be the 2-6-2 variant we see often on the Puffing Billy Railway right? Now that would be interesting loco to have on the L&B... I wondering what it's name is too, as it appears notable longer then all the others, clearly not named after a river like the others then I'm guessing.
