I was wondering why we'd stopped just after Ais Gill and then one of the lads in the support coach informed me of what was going on, the left side injector wasn't working and the right side although was still working was only letting water in as a trickle.

Thanks David, I knew shortly after 45699 passed that the engine was having problems with the injectors .

On injectors, I have always understood that steam should never be allowed to run through an injector without water first flowing. Hence the "water on, steam on and steam off, water off" rule. Otherwise an injector can overheat and start to play up. I'm not saying that this was the problem on the Fellsman but I have lost count of the number of videos where steam can be seen blowing out from the fireman's side of the footplate.

There seemed to be a lot of steam on the exact side you mentioned Al plus the Fireman had a few looks at it .

Problem arises whem the Injector steam valve doesn't seat and blows through, not the case every time though.

Owing to the problems with Galatea last night the tour was terminated at Preston rather than Lancaster and proceeded direct back to Carnforth from there as an empty train. Arrived back over 1 1/2 early.

I watched the train from the over bridge just beyond Wiltshire summit and Galatea was going well, no steam from below the footplate on the fireman’s side and a smiling fireman waving from the window. The preceding unit was about 3L and I guess 45699 would have been held at Whalley leaving 3-4L so passing Ramsgreave & Wilpshire 7L was creditable. The fault reported by @Moylesey98 apparently affected both injectors - possibly partly blocked delivery pipe from tender or debris in the water? Would this cause a working injector to “knock off” and leak steam? @andalfi1?

Here's the finished article from yesterday now live on YouTube and I hope you enjoy it. Please note before the keyboard warriors do start negatively on my video iv cut it back as much as possible and at certain points in the day I did try experimenting my covering the inbuilt microphone with a cloth. © of David Moyle & Moylesy Productions

I was watching it come off the viaduct at Whalley following the service train running late. It seemed to be running fine as it passed by on the start of the climb. Real time trains showed it leave Clitheroe 2 mins early. i assume it was stopped some where between me & Clitheroe because it was a few minutes late passing me . I put it down to the late service train. picture passing billington foot crossing - DSC_13398.jpg

We didn't get stopped by a red signal the reason why was because owing to the water injector issues with Galatea as both were playing up, the crew decided to stop on the level well before an amber signal and they tried to fill up the boiler there as they didn't wanna end up stopping on the gradient at a red signal because of the injector problems.

It is normal practice for many drivers to stop at the distant signal on the approach to Whalley if it is "on", so that they get a bit of a run at the bank ahead once it clears. If you go on to the IBS (intermediate block signal) at the end of Whalley platform it means that the bank is being tackled from a standing start.
