I visited with the Family on Saturday 18th August.

We arrived to be advised that due to a problem with the loco - steaming I think the train would be late so we decided to have lunch.

Passed the Domestic Facilities Management test - and the food was eagerly devoured by the children. Catering is it seems 'contracted out' but the staff were excellent. We were able to get a take out box so youngest could finish his meal when the train arrived.

Free tea on board to apologize for the delay - well thought but my wife did get a little frustrated by the slow running, possibly that rather nice 26 could have helped.

Loco was an Industrial but as a Scottish built machine that worked in Scotland very appropriate.

The line has avoided the 'linear scrapyard' partly I suspect as a result of the layout at Bowness but has an excellent relevant collection of rolling stock, artifacts and buildings. IMHO if you want to run a 'Museum' Railway, along with the IOWSR it certainly 'shows the way'

In short well worth a visit

I visited the railway on Friday and the train was only 7 minutes late because of slow watering in the morning, other than that I really enjoyed the journey and museum

Pedant mode ! The title should read Bo'ness (as an abbreviation of Borrowstouness - the full name of the town); apologies for the rant but my great grandfather was a resident of the town hence my grandmother was born there. Bowness on the other hand is a community centred on Lake Windermere - and nearer to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway I believe.

Thanks for your post and thanks to whoever corrected the thread title. As a volunteer on the line it is is always good to hear that a family enjoyed their visit to the B&KR. Apologies to Mrs Wessex but the first stretch of the line has several foot crossings and speed is limited to 10mph. Further along linespeed is 20 mph. These limits even apply to diesel locos.

Signal Box Appeal for Birkhill Station launched this week. With thanks to generous donations from society members we are already at £20k of the estimated £60k build cost. Any size of donation welcome! With a fair wind hopefully it won't be long until we can see trains passing at Birkhill!

From what I recall, the S&T Department already had a lot of the necessary equipment in storage about 20 years ago - hopefully it just all needs to be pulled out of the containers!

And it begins...the SPRS' effort to go ahead with their steaming ahead project began few days ago. They started to clean the messy area up, where a decent workshop will be constructed.
There`s a video covering the clean up:

What happened to all the wagons and parts of austerities, which won't have home now due to the limited space at site?

    Cheers
