Actually, no. It's a permissive path which the railway can, and does, obstruct from time to time. IIRC, it must be locked out of use at least one day a year. If you look at a map before the station was built (there's one in the Summer 2018 Mid-Hants News), there was no path across the line previously. Sorry for the thread-drift...

I believe the bridge actually belongs to its name sake...the Hampshire Hunt and they have the responsibility to maintain it.

Hi there, many thanks for explanation, all understood now.
To get back on thread, my intention was to view/snap the special at Medstead station from the 'station' footbridge, which I assumed was open as a footpath. I was thwarted and the reason seems to be that the railway can close the path as per the permissive path regulations. Thanks again.

Different bridge. I was responding to the question about the "footpath" that crosses the line at Medstead station.

Wow. Mark 1's hauled by a 47 diesel to Alton more expensive than Belmond Pullman to Bath hauled by Clan Line? Truly one for people with more money than sense!

Some might consider being locked in a confined space with Jools Holland and his plinky plonky piano bashing to be a cruel and unusual punishment banned under the Geneva Convention. If you are paying for it then I have to question your sanity or whether you are a masochist (not that there is anything wrong with being a masochist - whereas everything is wrong with Jools Holland).
