35028 'Clan Line'. London Victoria to Bristol. Wed. 5th September, 2018.
Oddly timed at 75 mph in one direction and 60 mph in the other. RTT blip? <BJ>
Routed via Swindon on outward and return legs.

Seems to be having a delayed start if RTT is anything to go by. I spied one of the royal 67's in Battersea Loop with it's headlights on as I passed over on my way to Waterloo so not entirely what's occurring? Looked like it may have had stock attached on the London end.

Delayed start due to a defective coach being taken out of the consist.

The MN just passed me, as my up train approached Reading at 1200, just getting into its stride leaving Reading. Realtime trains playing up, but Open Train Times showing the special as 129k, and just passin Goring as I type. Paul

Looking at both RTT and OTT the water stop at Challow seems to have been not taken. Not sure if there was water at Ascot but I assume Clan Line can not make Bristol with just a tender of water is there diesel involvement?

Clan Line may be unavoidably late but it looks as superb as ever at Ascot![IMG] from ANISTR.com

I don't think there was awater stop at Challow as it's only booked to stop there for 2 min. A top up at Ascot should get it to Bristol OK. The tender capacity is 5750 gals. No diesel assistance I understand

Thanks Johnb my mistake it was Milton Junction that OTT and UK Steam had as the water stop.
Also the image shows how long it must be since I have been to Ascot, do not recognise place.

Looks like between just before Ascot and Bristol they managed to pull back more than 30mins ;)

Going like the wind at Middle Hill tunnel, a wonderful sight. Load 12 today, no diesel.

According to RTT, 82 mins late at Ascot but arrived at Bristol just 49 late. A late start to the day but a very good run. <BJ>

Thaks, given the late running this morning, I had wondered if it would be on time or not on the return trip.

We made a stop at Ascot (planned) to pull coal forward, as after Reading we would be under the wires.
Schedule showed water stop at Milton, but this was not needed.
We took water halfway down the loop between Wantage Road and Challow, again planned.
Generator coach had to be taken off the train due to bad wheel flats, luckily it was behind the loco (rather than the support coach).
We were then further delayed due to multiple track circuit problems between Feltham and Egham.

Interesting to see Clan Line bring its own ECS into BTM, passing on the Up Through to run to Bristol West, to RR. Having waited a long time at Bristol East Gantry for a margin through the station. After run-round, it then headed back into BTM Platform 12. Left at 1730 (Id departed on 1700 BTM PAD).

Clan Line went ahead of 1730 BTM PAD from BTM. I saw it pass Chippenham; going like the clappers. Reducing time deficit. Some good work by signallers to give it a run.

Only I-phone phots attached but gives a feel for what I saw.

It looks as though the Pullman ran in under even time from Challow to Bath this morning. It seems that fast paths are still possible on the GWML at 75 mph.
