Presumably Galatea with Leander still in York.

Will it be steam on at Carlisle vice Carnforth as per the RTC job a fortnight later? Assume it has to be with them both originating from Euston.

Yup. Carlisle arr 1214 dep 1332. There's just not enough time with the usual 1240 arrival.

Thanks. Make the most of these Cumbrian Coast jobs I'd say. I'm not convinced how viable they will be going forward having to come on at Carlisle. I hope they do or an alternative format is worked out.

Could an earlier arrival/departure from Carnforth not be possible

I'd say no. The slot in the hour before is taken by the Tesco train and in any case 0710 is early enough to be leaving Euston. But an itinerary such as Crewe or Manchester to Carlisle via Shap returning by the Coast might be possible using a later return slot out of Carlisle.

Thanks I thought if they were taking in water, it would be a little longer like the 35 mins at Appleby

Appleby has regularly been under 15 minutes for southbound workings, though they don't top up at all there now most of the time. Last years Dalesman's were only 13 minutes at Appleby.

Thinking it over, the best chance for these two runs is if for some reason;) Northern is unable to use its slot at 1411 out of Carlisle. Then maybe after the Northern timetable is declared something might just possibly be fettled up which enabled the traditional path to be used.

Those northbound timings look odd to me. Why is the train stopping at Carnforth at all if the electric is going through to Carlisle? A passing time of 1050 at Carnforth would give an arrival of 1140 at Carlisle and that is six minutes ahead of the 0830 from Euston. Then everyone gets a reasonable stopover until the 1332 return via the coast. Maybe the problem is where to park the train at Carlisle.

Perhaps crew hours come into the equation here?

Yes I understand it was a crew change last time the 86 went London to Carlisle, not sure if hours or where specific electric drivers sign for though.
