How is it another 2-6-2? How many other examples of a Tender 2-6-2 are there?

Several Polish etc 2-6-2s exist. Common enough abroad. In the UK, not so.

Couldn’t disagree more. The monobloc is hidden between the frames almost invisible. The only way to really demonstrate what the monobloc looks like is to remove it from the locomotive and put it on display. Since many of the V2s Received separate castings during their working life, there is an historical precedent to fit them to 60800. In my opinion a locomotive that is stuffed and mounted demonstrates a little to the general public of what working steam is like.

Am fairly sure that, as mentioned previously that a party willing to fund the overhaul and replace any components unfit for running, and run the locomotive in terms acceptable to the NRM
would have little difficulty in getting her off the plinth.. Just a small matter of scraping together
    £2-3 00'000's...

A page from Martyn Bane's web-site covering the mods to the 8E class in Argentina:

A straightforward power uplift of 30+% - impressive.........

Likewise, I disagree with your statement.

It's the sole surviving example of its class with a unique engineering feature that merited its inclusion in the national collection, and indeed if it's also the sole remaining example of a 2-6-2 tender engine in the UK then that's all the more reason to leave it alone. If you want to illustrate the monobloc, a model is cheaper and can be placed alongside the locomotive.

There are plenty of working steam locomotives out there: 4771/60800 does not need to be one of them.

I appreciate the argument for leaving Green Arrow alone. The problem this creates (for me at least) is that I will never see a V2 working again unless this loco returns to steam. I regret that very much. Unfortunately there does not seem to be much support for a new build of any loco type if an original exists, even if museum bound.

How do loco's like 43106 and 1501 sit with you then?

Just dipping my toe into the argument about authenticity here - Green Arrow has already run in preservation, so it's not as though she remains 100% in 'as withdrawn' condition, because there has been some renewal of materials already. (Yes, Mallard should, in theory, therefore be allowed to be overhauled again using this argument; however it is well known that her 1986 overhaul was extremely limited in what was done, and frankly she would not have received even a limited steaming ticket, never mind a main line one, under modern rules.). It has been accepted in the past by the NRM that 4771/60800 could run again, but the momobloc would be kept for display, then replaced once her running days were again over. All that was/is missing is funding.... However, we digress from the V4...

Agreed. This is a thread about the V4 - not the whys and wherefores about Green Arrow. Much as I'd like to see it, I know the Stirling Single will never run again so why the fuss over Green Arrow in particular?
    , es
Or is it just Enthusiast Blinkers again?

Seriously - if those on here mithering about Green Arrow want to see it run again, instead of posting on here get your collective arses organised into a fundraising group to pay for a new monobloc cylinder casting and petition the NRM.

Now - can we get back to the loco in the thread title, please?

    Hi there!

    I was thinking of the naming of the V4, could a fancy idea be like this;

"for a donation of £?? supporters of the locomotive will have the possibillity to get a temporary personal nameplate fitted to the locomotive."

Maybe this could be a popular contribution , create publicity as well as being a valuable income for the locomotive in service?

    Knut:)

I believe the Diesel Traction Group do something similar with D1015, if your Favourite thousand is say D1009 Western Invador you can pay for replica plates to be fitted and 1015 will wear them for the day, at the end of the day you'll get presented with them! I think the 50 alliance might do something similar? Rather suprised a few more groups (steam or diesel) haven't picked up on this.

As the V4 will be a sole example of the class once built, I presume you’ll be against steaming it.

Why would I? It's a new build - the argument is false.

As you may notice from my sig file, I have no problem with the sole A1 or the future sole P2 - it'd be a particularly odd thing to stump up five figures of my own readies to build a loco not for steaming...?

You do make a bit of a strange point of view though, why should it be that one loco that's the last of its class (and in the national collection) not be allowed to steam again yet loco's that I've mentioned such as 43106 and 1501 (privately owned) have the work done for them to steam again?

Ergo being unique should not be a reason for not steaming a loco. If it was, the ranks of working locos would be somewhat thinner than they already are.
