Not sure that the pump is discrete though ! Pretty evident from the front, not that I know where else it could be mounted.

Look on the bright side. You never know when you may need to get at it and the moment you stick it between the frames you have a potential problem.

The pump has always been an eyesore, but has rarely given trouble there.

But the self-cleaning plate is there. Does that mean that the smokebox still has the self-cleaning stuff?

It's been a long time coming, but she's made it. 70000 at Tenbury Wall on the first of her runs from Bridgnorth today. Love a little sneak peek before the main event in two weeks time. She's on loaded test Monday-Wednesday with a different diesel tailing each day, then solo on Thursday. DSC_0264 (2).JPG

Don't know for certain on Britannia, but could well just be a cosmetic detail. I can think of a number of locos in preservation that have SC on the smokebox but no equipment - 73082 as one example.

Is she being tested at higher speeds next week as Royal Scot was? Must admit I like the SVR being used as LSL's test track - any chance of Blue Peter next year?!

    Test runs today cancelled.
Testing on SVR continues tomorrow with 70000 hauling 6 carriages from the GWR set with a diesel (TBA) on the rear, then with D1062 on the rear Wednesday and solo on Thursday according to SVR loco roster.

I think the intention is to do so. It will be KR-BY, either after service or in October when the daily service has finished.

I think SC really stands for Support Crew - particularly apt on the smokebox door!

Tom, why has 73082 not got the self cleaning apparatus? Ease of maintenance?

There's nothing specific about it in the Camelot restoration book; I assume that by time it came out of Barry, the screens were either non-existent or corroded beyond redemption, so I guess not much incentive to put it back. Pretty certain none of our locos have them fitted; certainly not any of the ones I have fired.

Some NYMR locos have them fitted as part of the spark arresting arrangement.
