The gala program said that the Last Hurrah gala in November is hoped to be Cromwell's last appearance before overhaul.

A few images from yesterday's Gala. The double header was representing the RCTS tour on August 4th but 50 years later it can't be that accurate, the stock is in the wrong colours, 48476 has the early crest and 73069 wasn't lined in 1968 but who would have thought back then that 50 years later any preserved railway could have put on such a show. There is a deliberate mistake in picture no three.

Thanks for that, must try and get there in that case (actually, it looks like it coincides with a rare weekend off).

My footage of the gala with my highlight being 48476 and 73069 (technically 48624 and 73165) recreating the double header tour on 4th of August as well as Oliver Cromwell and the 1T57 reporting number. Enjoy.

My final shot of the gala on Sunday, 70013 returning into Loughborough with 48624 and 73156 hitching a ride on the rear. The rain has just passed over but the skies remain overcast, hence the B&W to bring the shot out. DSC_3806 (6).JPG

With Cromwell’s ticket expiring on 31st December 2018, the last hurrah gala will be the locos last enthusiast centred event. Hopefully some running on the Santa’s and post Christmas services will give us our final photos

Rather than start another thread - I looked at that when passing on trains at this weekends Diesel Gala. It appears to be some sort of "air lock" type enclosed compound with pallisade fencing on the sides with a couple of (much lower) gates to close the track off at each end. The fencing on the eastern side is not yet erected and is currently just orange temporary fencing (against a hedge), though there are still parts for pallisade fencing stacked there.
It's about large enough to hold something like an 08 sized loco, so is it for a loco to be outstationed, securely, for shunting the stock under restoration at "Quorn Wagon & Wagon"???

PS - There is also a replica WW1 tank appeared on the former cattle dock as well....(though for some reason I can't post photos on this site anymore!)

I think they are testing the durability point motors or something similar and with point blades switching back and forth it has to be fenced off for safety reasons. When the tests are finished I understand the fencing will be removed

Certainly doesn't look "temporary" by any stretch of the imagination - unless someone has money to burn!
I think it's between a couple of points - the one leading to the headshunt which has the 127 DMU stored on it and the first one into the yard area proper. New fencing, new gates, new wooden gate posts.........

Hello guys, yes; also had a look whilst photting at Quorn. The whole construction confused me somewhat since the fence appears to be 'open-ended' at the down end (Loughborough) with a gate at the up end which seems to 'protect' the siding!
Some sort of testbed is not beyond the realms of possibly although as noted, rather OTT for a temporary structure? 55019 Quorn-4 07092018.jpg

Without going into details, what you have been told is broadly correct.

It will be shifted when the contract is completed and there is no longer a need for it.
