On 29th September 1968 Tyseley Depot opened its doors to the Public for the first time with a fantastic display of Steam Locomotives, traction engines and the like.
Exactly fifty years later the weekend of 29th & 30th September 2018 we aim to recreate the atmosphere of the original event and celebrate fifty years of open days at the depot.
In 1968 the first steam locomotive preserved at Tyseley 7029 Clun Castle was in operation and this locomotive will again be a star attraction at the anniversary event.
There will be a host of additional attractions including some historic miniature railway locomotives rarely seen in public.
A 10 ¼ inch gauge miniature railway will feature locomotives “John Terence” built at Broome Hall by engineer Grimshaw in 1908 and “Tali”a two third scale replica of the Beyer Peacock works locomotive built in 1887. Tali was completed in 2017 and resides at a private railway. The open weekend will be its first and a very rare appearance in public.
15 inch gauge Basset Lowke “Count Louis” will also be at the event.
Drivers and passengers of with pre 29th September 68 vehicles can register in advance to park at the event depot and get discounted admission.
Vintage fairground rides will include a steam powered carousel built in 1893. The carousel has 34 horse and two cockerels that gallop to the historic sounds of the Gavioli organ music. There will also be a children’s carousel dating back to 1910 with a fantastic selection of restored cars, steam roller, horses and other period toys. There will be side shows and traditional candy floss stall.
Visitors are encouraged to dress in 1960’s fashion and enter into the spirit of the event.
The event is open from 10.00am to 5pm both days.
    Admission prices are as follows:
Ticket Category In Advance On The Day
    Adult £15 £17
    Young Person (5-16 years) £4 £5
    Family £30 £35
    Drivers/Passengers of Pre-68 Vehicles £10 N/A

Tyseley are delighted to announce that 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe will now be in steam at the open weekend following some repairs at Tyseley Locomotive Works. This will be the locomotive's last appearance in steam prior to its planned ten year overhaul.

Tickets for the open weekend are available atwww.vintagetrains.co.uk/latestevents

Is there anywhere to park in the vicinity of the works for the able bodied? I would really like to attend the open day but the only way for me to get there is by car.

I emailed a couple of weeks ago and was told it was most likely the two panniers, but that 'this is not limiting the possibility of any of the locos pulling the shuttle'.

Tyseley certainly turned out some immaculate looking locomotives. Quite photogenic.
