WELTROL EF + Diamond frame bogie Drawings needed.

Can anyone help.
We are looking for a set of drawings for a WELTROL EF.
We have the loads diagram sheets which give the general dimensions but we need more detailed info prior to stripping our wagon down and overhauling it.
Also detail needed for the bogies, there are many types of vehicle with the 10 x 5 journal diamond frame bogies, so not peculiar to our WELTROL EF lot of eight wagons, fortunately.

I guess they’re the successors to RDDS? I got some drawings off them for my Palbrick B a few years ago but also the Build Specification which is a series of foolscap sheets and thus much cheaper than the large drawings, and includes a full list of materials and drawings so once you have that you can be a bit more selective over what else to ask for. So I’d ask for the Build Specification first.

We have had some hits on the NRM Search Engine but need to check exactly what is on there yet.

 

We had a visit to the NRM Search Engine last week.
We had searched through in advance and booked out the drawings we wanted to have a look at.
These were ready and waiting for us at the booked time and day plus more that we had not requested but found some that we needed in these extras.

One puzzling question on flat bar for brackets and frames.
On the attached photo some dimensions are given as "5 x 5" x 24lbs
Others can be found with a similar form but different sizes.
Can anyone answer as to what it means?

 

On your scan the 5" x 5" 24 lb is shown as an I section. I am pretty sure some I section standards have beams with the same outside dimensions but the section thickness varies, which will result in differing strengths. Unlike a piece of say flat bar the material thickness is probably different on the web and the flanges and for an old standard the flanges are tapered so it is easier to classiy them by a weight per length run. This is still done for modern parallel flange I section beams and columns. If you search for Historical Structural Steel Handbook using Google then this document has a table which lists 5" x 5" beams in 3 weights. Unfortunately you will probably not be able to source this sort of material as it is probably decades since it was made

 

Thankfully we are not going to need those sections .
Just spotted them on the drawings.

 

If you really need special sections made it is possible, but very expensive. On the Isle of Wight we needed some " 9" x 3½” Bulb Angle" similar to BS6 1904 edition but a different weight to repair our SECR carriage underframes. We had the required steel manufactured by hot extrusion in Germany.

 

Do not think we will need anything made up. The wagon is complete and in fair condition. Just good to have detail to work to and bolt sizes etc.
