The promoters may of course do the right thing for anyone who chooses not to travel and not simply revert to the T&C. We'll see.

 

Don't need reminding about Pathfinder. Already lost £250 to them when I cancelled my 2 tickets on GEI. Used the £250 credit note for GEII. That got cancelled and despite their Ts&Cs saying they make refunds when they cancel, all I got was another Credit Note. Blood and stone comes to mind.

 

Do I glean from this that we may get 2x £30 vouchers for the two of us if we show up to suffer yet another diesel hauled Pathfinder 'steam' hauled train and if we don't...what then? As Pathfinder's 11th August anniversary train was diesel hauled maybe I should have requested 2x £40 for that one.

 

Yes - 2× £30. No show = nothing. I'd be quite glad to have 37605 for the whole day.

 

Can't help feeling it's ironic that Arrriva having postponed the previous date because of fire risk as to "run the trip with a diesel would defeat the object of the day" so I was told from Pathfinders, we find ourselves diesel hauled in the pouring rain.

Before knives are sharpened for Pathfinder can we remember a) they are booking agent, not promoter on this one and b) they do not own the black 5 that was contracted to haul the train which (for whatever reason), has not appeared. By this I mean it may not be entirely Pathfinder's decision to take the risk on 45231.
That does not mean I do not feel some sort of recompense is warranted.

Yes, we were less than impressed with Pathfinders’ approach to refunds when, some years ago, we had booked seats on a number of tours with different promoters for a friend who sadly passed away. A single phone call to all other promoters was enough to get his fare refunded in full, but Pathfinder insisted that we applied for a refund in writing ... and then issued a credit note rather than a proper refund.

 

If that loco was owned by the A1SLT or VT, there's no way it would of even been considered to front the excursion if it was indeed their excursion. Even if they had completed the repairs at the death, to send it out without a proven test run seems strange, especially given the extensive issues it's had ! Piss poor from all concerned, apart from the lads tasked with the repairs !

 

Agreed, not apparently having any steam contingency plan whilst the clock seems to have been ticking for weeks is pretty poor, especially as emphasis was previously given to steam haulage being essential by the promoter.

 

With regard to the law the T&Cs of the promoters are unfair. They know this but rely on the unwillingness of customers to challenge them. It is not that expensive to use the Small Claims Court but I know of nobody having to go that far.

It's not a complicated issue in law or practise, whoever you paid the money to is responsible for refunds
