Tim. you really need to go to Specsavers........

76017 is framed by both Bighton Hill and the Handyside bridges. ;)

I was stood in an empty headshunt - nothing fore or aft of me, not even a box! :)

Meanwhile, here are my offerings from Saturday & not one taken from the headshumt. :Jawdrop:

These pictures are photo shopped, not natural at all.
    My Ryding should know better.

No, not really. DD takes advantage of the ISO Invariant nature of his camera to shoot about 4/3rds of a stop under and brings the shadows back up, retaining the strong colours in the highlights, it's his style - the world would be very boring if we all did things the same. In-fact, DD's images go nowhere near photoshop, his preference is Nikon's own software. I think you'll find you mean 'post processed', not 'photo shopped' which is something that photographers have done since the days of glass plate photography, just using different tools.
Mine on the other hand always go via PS/LR. My headshunt shot, for instance, is heavily editted. It looked nothing like it does now, I had to bring the shadows up almost 1 1/2 stops (from a nominally well exposed shot) and crop in a huge amount due only having a 35mm prime with me.

But I seem to recall we've had this conversation before, it was as boring then as it would be now , so I'm not going to post anything further other than to observe that as DD generally posts links not images, and as you know you don't like them, why would you bother to even look, other than to bitch about them :Troll:.

Fortunately, images on here are for us all to enjoy. They are not for judging in a competition in which case factors like image saturation might be raised. Photography is more an art form nowadays than it ever was, notwithstanding the work of people like Colin Gifford who led the way.

What I'm struggling with is the relevance of all this to MHR operations! This thread in its entirety could almost be located in one of the photography threads.

Really? From some of the last bunch of photos shown we've had:

Pointing out that the Hampshire unit is in play for the next few weeks.
    https://www.national-preservation.c...erational-matters.908178/page-48#post-2262654
Which is a change to the advertised operations.

506 in the wheeldrop with boiler and smokebox (so coming back together) and also the Headshunt cleared in preparation for the changes to the sidings at Ropley.
    https://www.national-preservation.c...erational-matters.908178/page-48#post-2263752
Prompting questions about where stock has been moved to and about the sidings.

Some nice shots of operations during the recent Open Weekend.
    https://www.national-preservation.c...erational-matters.908178/page-48#post-2263992
Showing the operational fleet and Swanage (which is often asked about).

Boiler being lifted onto the Frames.
    https://www.national-preservation.c...erational-matters.908178/page-46#post-2259988
Everyone has been asking how 506 is doing.

But would you prefer no one posted any images? Preventing those far away from seeing the changes and preventing the discussion that posting images results in.

Perhaps Mods, we could have a poll on this? ;)
It's no skin off my nose whether I share with the forum or not.

Ah, I can see many a young person interpreting that as a complement! 'Unreal' seemingly indicating to my generation that something is truly fantastic, marvellous and is almost too good to be true. ;)

I, on the other hand, feel that we ought to move on!!!

New build Maunsell Z for the MHR, anyone? :p

Does anyone know what the situation is with the Hastings 33 and the 03, they seem to have taken up long term residence are they on loan , or now permanent residents on the railway As regards Dave's Photos, well Chris if you can do any better , you know to do show us your best offerings , but lets be grateful of everyone who takes the time to post photographs of our preserved and mainline railways .

Well I for one like seeing relevant photos!

I wasn't aware that the use of the Hampshire unit these three weekends wasn't as advertised, it was the same last year wasn't it?

Look to me more like a different use of available light. I was never skilful enough to produce such results by manipulation of camera setting, but I did use different transparency film for different effects, such as the old Agfa for rural scenery and Kodak for a more "picture postcard" appearance.

I like the effect produced here. Doesn't look to have been manipulated "post production" to me.

    Just found this:

I actually slowed the video down to check that that was definitely 73096 on the up train at Ropley! Intriguing that a video from 2011 has only just been put up.

According to the Gee Gee's mush - the Head Honcho of the ULS, not me - you are spot on.

Their words not mine, - and yes they do read this thread! :Jawdrop:

Oh, and they also said, If you were a ULS member, you'd have known it. ;)

Meanwhile the less than straight forward parts of the Ashpan were being fabricated yesterday, so 506 gets ever closer..... :)
