Steam Railway SR485 – on sale now!

This month’s edition of Steam Railway celebrates the return of not one but two steam locomotives after years out of the limelight – Bahamas and Caledonian Railway No. 419.

Unique double-chimney ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596, fresh from its recent overhaul and return to steam for the first time since 1997, is our cover star this month, and we look at what the future has in store for the Stanier 4-6-0 as it was unveiled at Tyseley Locomotive Works 50th anniversary open weekend.

It might not have been out of traffic as long as Bahamas, but CR ‘439’ 0-4-4T No. 419 has also made a long-awaited return to steam after more than a decade on the side lines. Read all about this fascinating locomotive on pages 64-67 as it prepares for its long-awaited reunion with CR ‘812’ 0-6-0 No. 828 at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway in November.

Elsewhere, we feature behind-the-scenes pictures, exclusive to Steam Railway, of new-build ‘P2’ No. 2007 Prince of Wales’ rollout as a 2-8-2 for the first time, a tribute to Great Central Railway figurehead Bill Ford, and part two of our new-build health check series.

We also have a complete autumn steam gala round-up, from the likes of the North Yorkshire Moors and Severn Valley railways, to the Middleton and Aln Valley lines – we present a complete run-down of what was running where this September.

As always, we bring you the very latest news, comment and analysis from the world of preservation, including:

    · Canadian railway museum considers ‘A4’ and ‘Terrier’ disposal

    · Lyd and Lyn united at L&B gala

    · Planet team plans to build Lion replica by 2030

    · Mid-Hants’ locomotive strategy and overhaul plan

There’s all this and more in the latest edition of Steam Railway – the world’s biggest steam news magazine. On sale now!
