nice to see Network Rail (or whoever) making good use of the lack of trains to carry out some much needed restoration work.. hopefully they will sort out the asbestos roof at the North end too.. also good to see Miller's Dale viaduct being sorted after many years neglect, a big thumbs up...

John and myself have carried on with both faults and telephone work this week, Rod has disassembled the stairs ready for re-election in rowsley box now so that’s the dep’ts next job

    Loco wise

Work on rebuilding the north end cab of the class 25 continues, most of the bottom beam had corroded and been repaired back in BR day’s so Martins making good with new framing et al.

Work on the prairie continues,as does the 08 which is in yellow primer undercoat now,yet more layers to go on and then it’s cylinders and liners to go back in.

Mencap and the pway were busying themselves in the late Indian summer too.

Down at Matlock mainline station the contractors have finished painting and were about to start reglazing the canopy with palsun glazing polycarbonate which we used to do the box windows in too.

very small update this time as spent all day on my own departments work putting in the stairs for Rowsley box with Rod,John,David and Bill ,work of art ,fitted easily thanks to a lot of Andrews careful cad measurements and Rods skills at metalwork.

the lms 10000 group were doing some interviewing work on an ex derby works design chap who used to be involved with the project to build the original itself.

Bens been busy with other things but progress on the midland brake continues.

I should have a bit more news next time rather than hiding under the box keeping warm :)

Hello folks. Not sure how many know that the Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society are located at Peak Rail with the aim of recreating the Britain's long lost first mainline diesel, 10000. This loco was built by the LMS at Derby and the society have just released a promo video giving a brief history on the loco and the aims of the society. The video can be found on their website here: https://lms10000.co.uk/

Cool. Feel free to share it. The society is trying to boost interest and awareness at the moment as they need to raise money for the next phase, which is the purchase and overhaul of the bogies.

104C7D70-F458-4CA9-90A4-DDEEC807FC1E.jpeg Spent Friday cutting out the extra floor joist in Rowsley box and starting and starting upon the handrails and replacing flooring on the stair edges as well as sorting all the bolts out in the weight bars

Down in the shed work on the north end cab of the class 25 has finished welding and painting in primer has started so the cab can be put back into its body. The class 37 is in the shed to have its bodywork started next and the class 08 is already in its gloss coats now and well on its way

The Allianz crew have been sprucing up the station at Rowsley with fencing and painting works and down in the lmsca shed the midland brake continues apace

The network station has reopened following derbys resignations no works and the canopy glazing is completed in opaque material.

Were there any other Midland Railway (MR) boxes with internal stairs, or is this something you've had to do at Rowsley specifically to cater for your site? Only most MR boxes I've seen in the flesh or in photos had external stairs, as we have at St Albans South.

it is indeed, plus we plan to allow some public access to the box with the frame being unique so the weight gear is downstairs and behind a secure screen, hence coming in through the downstairs via the weight gear then upstairs to view the frame area.

working for the mainline railways for long enough to realise boxes that are manned permanently have no problems, but if you make an opportunity vandals will be in

Thanks for the replies - your particular setup obviously needs the way you have designed it. Hope to look in one of these days when it's finished.

Hope they save those bricks from the original shed. They would probable come in handy for some jobs round the railway and also keep some the history on the railway too. :)

I wonder how old those timbers are?

A few years ago I found half the hexagon top of the chimney, but I don't know what happened to it. Hope it wasn't destroyed or buried again and it would make a good part of a display for the history of the site one day.

I think they are going to run some rails out the back to they can work on stuff outside.
