Yes I am an active volunteer
If it was heading for Bury St Edmunds, presumably the ECS had come from the Eastern Region, hence the teak stock. I assume the loco was laid on specifically because it was that particular regiment returning from overseas service. Interesting to know what route they took! It may be worth looking at the Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire archives - I have a recollection that when I was last at the Herts archive there had just been a new book published on the regiment's history, which might provide an answer?
