Sounds like a good event, I will see if I can get time off work. I read a bit about in Steam Railway, I was wondering if there will be any days when all the locos will be running as I wont be able to make all nine days. Also I was wondering about public transport as I dont have a car.

All available locos will be in steam for the last Sunday for the Cavalcade, but the first weekend, friday, and second saturday will provide the most locos in traffic. Lil bear should be able to advise more specifically *nudge* ;-)

As for public transport, there is a mainline service to Ruabon, from which a bus service links to Llangollen, but it would be best to check availabilty for the specific day(s) you intend to visit.

More details will be available on the website as time goes on, and the leaflet also includes relevant contact web addresses and telephone numbers for transport links.

    Hope this helps!

    Craig

Yes all twelve will only be working on Sunday the 26th.

Mon-Thurs there will be a maximum of 3 locos operating services.

Sat 18 / Sun 19 / Fri 24 / Sat 25, members of the home fleet will be rested to allow you to see more of the various visiting locos we have.

Timetable will be released before the event once complete. A full working timetable will be in the booklet. The website will only give Departure times and locos in use, NOT diagram allocations as far as I know.

Will booklets be able to be purchased and sent out before the event?

How about seeing if 2 or 3 of the gresleys from the SVR could visit? Surely transport from SVR to Wales would be cheaper than transport from Scotland to Wales?

Same again, if someone offers to pay for the transport costs then we will look at it. Problem is we are already at our limit with what we have planned now. It is hoped to have the Thompson Buffet back in service soon so that will be in use. Also we do have a few LNER coaches in Pentrefellin but not sure of what the situation with them is. Bob be the best person to ask there.

When you get a copy of our Gala Leaflet (You weren't at Barrow Hill!!) you will see that as part of the ticket application form, there is the opportunity to purchase the booklet in advance. We are following the NYMR in this way. The booklet will not only be an attractive souvenir but also an important fund raiser for us.

I am sure it wont be long before you pick up a copy of the Leaflet!

    Ref. Gresley coaches etc.

We hope to have E.C.J.S. 377 (1907 vintage) cosmetically restored , one side varnished teak & the other blood & custard . This will match G.N.R. 229 (1912 vintage) which is already cosmetically restored. These will be available for photo charters, but there is no chance of them carrying passengers until about S.S. & S 6.
The Buffet Lounge car 1706 will be available as it is expected to be repaired in time for the Autumn gala.

    Bob.

Ive had a look at the available tickets but I don't understand what is meant by an extra day ticket? Is there a discount for buying more than one day? I was thinking of coming for four days starting on Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th April would it be cheaper to buy a 9 day ticket than 4 individual tickets? Is there reciprocal travel discount?

It is nearly cheaper to buy a nine day ticket at £56.00 !

Extra tickets apply once you purchase an all day ticket (A Fri, Sat or Sun Ticket).

In your instance for advance booking the 4 days would cost:

    All day Ticket £20
    Extra Day £10
    Extra Day £10
    Extra Day £10

    Total = £50.00

Of course because 6880 is a charity, we are really encouraging Gift Aid.

By paying just an additional £5.00 your total contribution would equate to about £70.00.
(we get an extra 28p in the £1.00 of the total £55.00)

For the record an Advance Nine Day Ticket with Gift Aid is £62.00 and with this amount we would receive nearly £80.00 as a total contribution.

    Hope this makes sense.

That leaflet looks really good, do you guys do all of your leaflet & poster design in house?

Amazing sounding line up , just a shame you couldn't hire some GWR coaches from somewhere

Craig Tiley (Mighty Mogul) a member of 6880 has designed all the publicity material (including many of the photographs) for both the 6880 Betton Grange Project and Steel, Steam & Stars I & II galas. Craig's a member of 6880.

Re. GWR coaches etc... It's all down to costs. Transporting the locomotives will be bad enough !

It's certainly billing up as the event of 2009.

I'll have to start looking at how many days I make it over there, any chance of a link so I can download the poster?
