I suspect that the tender tank is the one which came with Thornbury, but IIRC is to be replaced by a new build Hawksworth one already made?

The eBay seller says the tender tank was intended as a long-term spare for Kinlet Hall but he’s decided they don’t need it now. And he has ‘a number’ of chimneys available. Proceeds to 7027 restoration.

He shouldn't advertise this on NatPres as it will encourage certain persons to start a new build project.

Heck, you've got the chimney and a tender tank so you just need the bit in the middle - piece of cake! Set up a 'just giving' page/farcebook page quick and there'll be a new-build Castle in no time. Where's Stuart when you need him!!

No I think more ambition is needed, the parts can be used for a new build 'The Great Bear'. Would need some changes obviously like Caprotti valve gear etc, and perhaps rename it 'The Pudsey Bear' as that would help with the Just Giving page. It's a winner, Please "just give" 5 million okay !. You might even be able to buy Thornbury from the same source as a donor engine !

A bit small for that but a hot tub has real possibility. Steam heated, of course, or perhaps keep some of the coal space for a fire.... :)

There is actually some merit in that suggestion. The rules may now have changed but I used to know someone with a two level garden who installed a swimming pool 'effectively' above ground which, as such, did not attract any increase for the Rates of the property.

    Indeed, more details here. http://www.furnessrailwaytrust.org.uk/about/blog/

IIRC the objective has always been to get Wootton's tender finished and hired out ASAP.

It will be good to see Wootton Hall back in service, arguably a more significant contribution to the preservation scene than a small rebuild of limited use, the Hall should be the priority.

One thing looking at the link and the references to "removing the cantrails from GER No. 5". Clearly they don't know what the cantrail is. The parts he is removing is the Cornice (guttering). The cantrail is the top rail of the body framework (ie a totally different piece).

I have a friend who uses a retired RHDR tender body as a log store. It looks good as it is painted and lettered

Pete Waterman had a new Hawksworth 4000 gallon tank built which was sold on with 7027. The Collett 4000 gallon tender that was also came with this loco was previously at Swindon Works as an oil carrier. What intrigues me is whether the intention is to fit the Hawksworth tank to the Collett frames, which is historically completely incorrect, or whether a new Hawksworth chassis will be built. To the best of my knowledge there are no spare Hawksworth chassis around.

So we could see a set of Collett frames up for sale or they could be dismantled with the inner sections retained for use with new Hawksworth style outer frames, as the GWS have done with the tender for 1014 County of Glamorgan. However this is obviously pure speculation on my part.
