7822 will be on the 17:20 BL-MD and double heading with 53808 on the 21:40 MD-BL service Friday 7th. This will be the Quantock Belle dining train down to Minehead, combined with the last returning passenger service for the trip back to Bishops Lydeard.

    Saturday 8th, 7822 will haul the 16:30 BL-MD and 21:40 MD-BL.

Obviously this is subject to availability or change, but I hope this helps and you can come along to support this great event. The village lit by candlelight, combined with a festive atmosphere and steam at night is not to be missed.

    Cheers

How far are we from seeing 7828 Odney Manor back, excitement is building.

It would be good to see 7828 steam again on 11 December as it did once before on a foggy 11 December 1987 after its 1st restoration from its Barry scrapyard condition at Toddington GWSR. I was very pleased to be there to witness it. 19871211-7828 Odney Manor in 1st steam since restoration Toddington.jpg

I had no idea it actually steamed at Toddington before leaving, so thanks for that! I presume it didn't stay long before moving up in the world (as it then was!)?

“Moving up in the world” being to the Gwili on its travels! Via Barry scrapyard for a brief return visit I believe.

I spot a present day DSR stalwart behind 7828. ex-GWR 4277, currently awaiting overhaul.

Indeed, I was crazy enough to assist in extracting 4277 from Barry Scrapyard in 1985. I was sorry to see it sold on (as it has been a couple of times) but it helped to fund 2807. Another couple of images of 7828 at Toddington and 1 of 4277 (in 1989). Like I said in another post, the chap with the biggest investment in 7821, 7828 and 5952 was of "strong character." The collection left shortly after 7828 had steamed and was replaced at the GWSR by, amongst other things, 76077!

If my memory serves me correctly @West Somerset Wizard has a wonderful image of Odney Manor, Foxcote Manor and Dinmore Manor triple-heading on the West Somerset Railway.

If 7828 had returned to service for this years ASG it may have been possible to recreate that image.

  12. The first WSR Manor triple-header involved Dinmore, Ditcheat and Odney Manors. The occasion was an Autumn Steam Gala some years ago. The locos were all facing Minehead, if I recall correctly.

My first journey behind Odney Manor was at the East Lancs some time before that.

  13. The Railway's adopted beer supplier Quantock Brewery have produced a short promotional video with some WSR footage included, both steam and diesel. To be found on the front page of www.quantockbrewery.co.uk the Railway footage starts at 3:30. Worth watching the lot though!

Lots of Railway folk frequenting the taproom these days. Last evening we had Dunster by Candlelight passengers call in, some on their way to catch a train and others on their way home at the end of the evening, and also some Railway staff relaxing at the end of their day's work. Plenty of Railway chat available with the beer.

  14. Official QB page still states 'to be confirmed'. Hopefully a long-awaited decision will be made soon.

    Stogumber view. Stolen leaves

I’ve been away a lot over the last few weeks and seem to have been mostly at home in the dark. So the first bright clear morning at home for a while reveals a change to stark, bare but no less beautiful trees. Nice to have a train or two as well.

The new Williton webcams seem to be afraid of the dark. They don't want to play after sunset.

They don't want to play before dawn either.
    The others are awake.
Looking at the Blue Anchor one I don't think I'd like to be there at the moment.

For those who subscribe to RailCam UK both Williton cameras are performing perfectly.
